They seem to think it's a good buy for what it has, well worth the $8k if it hasn't been wrecked or in poor condition, which it doesn't appear to be. Have you checked the NADA value at all?

And do you have any pics?
I haven't checked NADA. I'm not worried that much anymore after reading some of the replies on the thread you posted. I was just trying to make sure that modding it didn't drop the value to like 5k, in which case I wasn't going to buy it for 8k lol.

I will have pics in a little while. I'm gonna swap rides with him until Tuesday so I can get a feel for it and really check it out.

UPDATE: After first day of my "test drive" period, there seems to be only one problem with this car. 2nd gear "grinds" when I try to shift into it fast. It's the only gear that has a problem, the rest are smooth as silk. I can get it to not do it by putting slight pressure into the gear, but not enough to actually engage it, then release it and shift. I would kinda describe it like I "tickle" second gear (not actually engaging it, or even grind, but close), then I back off and shift into it.

Other than that, the car is pretty damn solid. I expected to hear random noises or it to be uncomfortable, but in reality it feels, sounds, and runs excellent. The racing buckets are a little tight (well, I'm just a little too big in reality lol), but I find it keeps me more secure. Sure, there are random small nit-picky things, but it's a 7 year old used car, so I'm not going to nit pick it. It drives and handles way too well for me to do that. To me, besides the second gear thing, the driving experience makes up for all the "small stuff", at least until I stall it at a busy red light (actually happened the first time I drove it a year ago lol).

Plan on a tranny rebuild, the 2nd gear synchro is on its way out.

I did find out that if you drain the fluid and replace it with Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, it helps.

Prices on Ebay for a Tremec TR-3650 are in the $600 to $1200 range.

Yeah, that's what I'm scared of. If I have to rebuild/replace, I would want to go with something better though, and IDK how the aftermarket transmission scene is on those mustangs, or how much it would cost.

I like stock stuff owned by old men or girls. If you start off with a stock well maintained you'll get a much better car. Avoid any vehicle with lots of "mods".

what transmission is it? Tremac transmissions are known to have issues but they can be built up better. The tremac I put in my Mach I had an issue going into 3rd gear brand new. Disappointing it was..

The easiest thing to do is get a performance rebuild on the Tremec. It's a good tranny when rebuilt properly with improved parts.

I think it's worth about $8k even with a tranny rebuild on the schedule.

Buddy of mine paid $16k private party for a comparable 2007 car (long tubes, tunes, cams, 22" chrome wheels -too big but whatever, etc.) with 22k miles and in absolutely perfect condition a year ago. This car still literally doesn't have a single scratch or ding anywhere on it. So between differences in condition, mileage, and year (2 if you adjust), I feel that fairly puts the car around $8k, but it isn't an absolute steal. The 5.0 has knocked the value on these big time.

Yeah. The clutch is great. Doesn't slip under heavy power. All of the other gears are smooth as butter, and even downshifting into second is good. It's just upshifting into second that grinds, which sucks sooo bad. He did tell me before though that the synchro for second was on it's way out, so it's not like I wasn't aware, and he is willing to get it fixed or replace the transmission if I want before the sale so I don't have to deal with it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it. I just have to settle this war between the part of me that's a penny pinching tightwad and the other part that knows I can afford it and would be so happy.....

Hell, in that case just jump on it. I'm the same damn way with every single thing I do. My truck is the one thing I have that I splurge on and am somewhat obnoxious with and enjoy. You have to enjoy life! Follow that, cause I don't even follow that advice of my own very well.

I don't know how old you are, but you've gotta do it if you've come to the realization that you know you can afford it and it'll make you happy. It's the best feeling in the world, to me at least, to smile your *** off like a clam every single time you're behind the wheel of a vehicle. And what's better at that than a loud, cam'd Mustang?

For the money you save, I'd look at putting a T-56 Magnum XL in there. bulletproof trans that will take a beating on street duty. There will be no issues at the power it has now, and it will hold up to a ton of power down the road.
