Certainly more risk to the junkyard motor. But at like $1,000+- cheaper, I'd be very tempted to take the risk if it were me. They might warranty it with another junkyard replacement motor if it grenades or starts making ominous noises within 30 days (but you do all the labor).

The problem with the reman motor is you may spend more money on repairs than the car is worth repaired.

If he plans to keep the car for years and you can avoid any other major mechanical problems, the reman is probably the way to go.

Yeah the whole situation is on one side of the fence one minute and on the other side the next.

If I had one of those I'd drive it until the engine or the tranny bit the dust then I'd have it turned into paper clips.

Due to lack of interest, it has been recycled.

I had a junk dealer come and haul it away but not before I took the passenger bucket seat out of it and bolted it to a furniture roller cart. Now I have a nice chair to sit in while I'm on the patio and I can roll down hill if I've had too much to drink. I also bolted a cupholder to the roller part and I may bolt a floor shifter on it....
My daughter had one for awhile aswell, - it was a 98 and it did the same thing. I lifted the carpet one day to see where the leaks where and absolutely swear that car was rusted just about in two. From where the firewall and floorboard meet , halfway to the seat, - all the across. Trailered it to the junk yard after molesting it a bit. I grabbed the two e-fans for my truck lol.
