Nope but my town is smart and owns all the utilities. You pay more in taxes but everything is self sustained unlike most and service is extremely fast

National grid dropped the ball last year... I think the state sued them iirc. We had power back in 2-4 hours. Some in surrounding towns went 10 days

Lord I'm glad that's in your back / front yard and not mine. Been down to about 50 at night and 65-75 in the day. A wee bit of rain lately too. Winter has arrived in So. Cal.!

That's what I was thinking when I was watching the news try to build this up. When I was a kid this kind of snow happened at least once a winter, and it was the one we wished for because it meant school was out for a day or two (we had a large rural population and it took a while for the plows to get to them).

The blizzard of 1978 happened around my birthday. Can't say I remember though. It was my sixth, and I don't have the best memory. I think that I'd started school by that point so I'm sure that I would have been excited to have a day off from school. It was always exciting to anticipate a snow day, but then we'd spend the day bored out of our minds.

I think that news people just want us all sitting in front of out TV's watching them. We took a couple breaks from shoveling yesterday and watched NECN's "BLIZZARD OF 2013" coverage. It was funny watching these sleep deprived people try to fill in the time with useless conversation.

You hear people around here say, "we used to get so much snow when I was a kid but get hardly any now", but then the "BLIZZARD OF 2013" hits and everyone is surprized.

TruckGuy24, it may have been different for you guys in the eastern part of the state, because our weather can be wierd like that, but I distincly remember shoveling ALOT of snow in the 2010-2011 winter season. We had storm after storm.

It was also interesting that our governor issues a travel ban in our state. When I was a younger man, the first thing that I wanted to do in a snow storm was drive like a lunatic in the snow. It was great fun! If I had a vehicle that I didn't pay so much for, I'd think it was fun to do now.

I didn't move to the north until I was in middle school. A snow day for me was great. I'd be outside most of the day building snow forts, sled hills, or just digging out until I was too cold and had to go in to warm up. WE never went sledding until it was dark out so the hills were abandoned. We stay until we were to sore from banging into trees or each other to go on.

I also recall that the road to town seemed as tho you were traveling thru a canyon pass or what not.. Normally they're were fields on both sides. Once the end loaders had cleared or cut a swath thru, the topography changed a bit lol.

My cheap snow blower bit the dust today. The impeller came undone on that POS. I dont usually get that much snow and this is the first real good winter we have had in about 10 years. Shoveling by hand the rest of the winter so hopefully it lightens up. I'll look for a nice used one in the offseason.
