A 35-year-old employee with the State Department of Transportation died Thursday after he was hit by a pickup while he was working on Interstate 26.
Ted C. Yandle, of 103 Cornish Way in Lexington, died about 1:35 p.m. after he was hit in a work zone near the Peak exit, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said. Yandle was standing on the shoulder of the eastbound side of the highway when he was hit, Watts said. He might have been measuring a part of the road when he was hit, Watts said.
Vincent Scott Keefauver, 24, of Spartanburg, was charged with felony drunken driving involving a death, said Lance Cpl. Kelley Hughes of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The 1996 Nissan pickup Keefauver was driving was headed east on the interstate, veered off the road and hit Yandle, Hughes said.
I helped Ted to get this job, but now I deeply regret it, since it got him killed!
Please, slow down so these men and women can go home tonight. I am not accusing any of you of DUI, only asking that this open your eyes. He was in a well marked and coned off area on the shoulder.
Ted, You will be missed my friend!

That is just terrible!
I will never understand drinking and driving. How can anyone have such a calous disregard for other people as well as themselves? If they dont care what happens to them, they should just put the bullet in their own head instead of endangering others.
My prayers go out to all of you.
My prayers go out to all of you.
After spending time surveying and doing other work around roads, all I can say is PLEASE slow down and be careful. While the majority of people hurt in construction zones aren't the workers themselves but careless drivers - no one working in these zones would mind if you took it easy. I've seen people do way too many stupid things that have endangered themselves and those who have to work there. It is not fun and I don't miss it. It was the one part of the job I hated.
As for the DUI - we all know thats stupid.
Whats one minute longer getting to your destination?
Be safe out there!
Highway workers - give em a BRAKE!!!!!!
