Break out the faux Ford stickers and peel off the Dodge ones. Does it really matter anymore?

Pulling out back in '77 was way worse than it is today. Back then, we were only a few years removed from Richard Petty's championship runs in Mopar vehicles. Today, NASCAR is so far removed from the showroom models you can buy and drive that I don't think it really matters much anymore.

I saw this on another forum, it was too good not to share.

FIAT's CEO asking Regional Presidents about their Motorsports Division......

"So, how what are we competing in in America?"

"Sir, we have that NASCAR team representing us, and a few drag racing teams"

"Oh Oh, really? what is this NASCAR you say? Do they race that AWESOME challenger? WOW, I did'nt see plans for a Homologation Special..."

"Uh, actually Sirrrr, its just a tube frame, we dont actually use any parts we make, no need for a H-Special"

"What? LOLOLOL.............cancel that effort. Put all the money into Running the new Fiat Designed viper at Lemans next year, I want 2 cars.....no wait, 3 should do it"

"But sirr, we have been running the NASCAR program for MANY years, we have so many great victories, great cars"

"Really? Any mid engine supercars? Any Formula 1 champions?, any Lemans winners?"

"Um, No sir, not really. The cars and rivers are'nt really known outside the USA"

"What? How absurd? Racing drivers that are not really famous? Cars that can't b used on the road? whats the point of having out name on something like that?"

"well sir...ita good ol boys racing"

"good old what?"

"Good Old Boys sir"

"Like Niki Lauda?"

"no sir, like the Pettys, The Bodines, The Labontes....."

"Oh, and how many times has they won the famous Indianapolis 500?"

"Sir, never really actually"

"Have they won at Sebring with our cars?"

"no sir"

"Have they won at famous Daytona 24 hours race?"

"No sir, not any of those drivers"

"I see"

"Sir, we had a touring car championship a few years ago"

"yes?"

"we ran a Stratus Touring car"

"Oh really, how did you do?"

"well, sir, we finished 4th in the standing and did'nt really go back the next year"

"I see"

"What about rally? Have we ever won at Monte Carlo? Argentina? have we ran the Dakar?"

"The what now sir?"

"The Paris-Dakar"

"um, no, we once built a Ram to run the Baja 1000 with the mexicans"

"Really? How did we do?"

"Well, our drivers flipped while we were driking pina coladas with some local girls"

"I see"

"So all we have done, in the dozens of years this company has been together is run in this NASCAR thing?"

"Well sir, we once had a ALMS team, we partned with Team Oreca and won MANY MANY races"

"Really? How is that doing now?"

"well sir, after we won a few races we put the cars back in storaged and stoped the program?"

"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?"

"Well.....we dont really know sir"

"Sir, we also have high Performance division called SRT"

"Oh, I know, I saw that "DEMON" concept car based on a Lotus chassis.......how is that doing in sales?"

"um, sir, we did'nt really build that"

"Really? What did you build?"

"A 4000 pound Cherokee 4x4 with a Hemi, a Truck with a happy rear end and a V10 and a Challenger"

"Oh really, does the challenger have the same parts from the NASCAR racecar?"

"Um, no sire, they share nothing really"

"Oh, so how is that doing"

"we sold a couple....."

"a couple?"

"yeah, one in 2009 and one in 2010"

I dont know why theres any brand loyalty within NASCAR because all the cars use the same body template and a Chevy smallblock anyway.

I don't think they had much to pull just a couple cars lol. NASCAR has got so commercialized that it just got to boring for me to watch anymore. It was great when Dale Jarrete, dale Earnhardt, Jeff burton, Mark Martin, and yes even Jeff gorden would mix it up was some great races then. Now not so much.

Almost correct on the first point. Dead wrong on the second point. You might want to check out the Ford FR9 engine used in NASCAR.

If they start using actual modified production cars I may be interested, and if they do more than turn left most of the season. Its just a bunch of identical cars going in circles. Without this thread I never would have known about this.
