Expedition going down the same path as the Econoline

Soon I think the Exp is going have the same fate as the e-series vans. I just notice for 2013, they will be sporting the 5.4 for yet another year. It has been practically the same truck since 2007. Start waving bye bye to it, I don't foresee it being on the selling line up much longer.

Hopefully it gets revamped before getting cut. My family has loved our 3 Expys.

Wow, 5 whole years since a redesign. Please, nothing to worry about yet. Now if it's 2022 and it's still the same then you can worry.

Well the motor has been a 3v 5.4 since 05. Nothing wrong with that, just seems outdated for a 37k+ truck imo.

IMO they are probably gonna drop it sooner than later due to the CAFE mpg standards that are coming to help get the overall Ford fleets mpg average up.

Also now that local and state law enforcement and 3 letter government agencies can get the new Explorer as the "Police Package" SUV for their fleets w/ a better mpg to boot the Expedition probably will be taking a hit on govt/fleet sales as well. Heck we got Escape hybrids last year to replace our aging Expedition GOV fleet.

The age of vastly oversized SUVs that get 11 mpg are over for the majority of families, unless gas comes back down to $1.80 a gallon. All just my opinion of course.

Betcha the Expy gets dropped when they run out of 5.4's. That's the only vehicle left that uses it, and they aren't going to keep an engine line open for one low-selling vehicle.

Wife and I got one back in Sept. '96 when they first came out as a '97 model. Loved that vehicle, got 20 mpg on the hwy with the 5.4 and 3.31 gear's. A few month's later I got a '97 Lariat. Two great Ford's in the driveway, hate to see the Expedition go if it's true.

I love mine. Not real crazy about the current models with independent rear suspension however. If I was replacing my Expd right now, with a new one, I would probably end up with a Tahoe/ Suburban. We have a 04 company truck, and I don't really care for teh ride vs mine.

I'm a bit concerned with Ford seemingly abandoning markets - if you want a truck smaller than a F-150, you need to go elsewhere, even though Ford has a perfectly good new Ranger that they won't sell here. If this comes to pass, where will you have to go if you want a truck-based SUV? At least they have the Transit and Transit Connect for van and minvan customers.

Ford said years ago they wanted to cut down on the platforms they use and make 10-15 world used vehicles. I see them already in this process look at the Explorer and Taurus using the same platform. Its about adapting to new markets and is the same reason we lost the Excursion. I LOVE all the big vehicles but I'm afraid oil drives everything and there is no market for a 7 passenger SUV that get 12 mpg's while you are selling a smaller same 7 passenger vehicle thats getting 20-28 mpg's. We were looking at the new Expeditions and ended up with a 4 wheel drive explorer and I couldn't be happier with the power, drive quality and the fact my wife is hauling around our kids and getting 20 mpg around the city with a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

The new Explorer sure can't tow what an Expy can, it doesn't have the chassis.

I've always liked the 97-02 Exp/Nav. Great bang for the buck truck these days. The 5.4 and e4od/4r100 and solid 8.8 is a good setup. I would pick one up, if I didn't have three broncos. The only thing I liked about the explorers was the 302 engine. The rest was junk imo.

Got drunk one day and bought a 03 expedition. Best vehicle I've ever owned. If the x hadn't moved an hour away id still have it.

Probably not a high volume seller. Big SUV sales peaked in the late '90's- early '00's and have been on a downhill slide ever since. Now everybody has a quad cab pickup or car based SUV.

Do they even make Navigators anymore? I havent seen a new one in forever.

Honestly I dont even know what Lincoln has anymore besides the MK-whatever Fusion clone and MK-something or other Edge clone.
