Bad luck of selling to people who blame their own stupidity on a past issue that no longer exists...yes. The study says driver error was one of the main culprits determined by NASA when the case was at its peak. That lady's story made no sense. It wasn't an accelerator error, it was acceleration, steering, AND braking having a mind of its own. What is the single entity that controls all that?? The driver. lol sorry to make fun of people, but be able to take responsibility if you screw up, don't blame the company who provided you with the most popular hybrid on the road.
I will say Toyota has taken all this heat quite well, and it is costing them millions. They are all about fixing any possible issues with their designs.

That's what GLC was talking about when he said the "dark days". Well, not totally that, and there were actually a few good domestics ( I said a FEW!) in the 70's, now the '80's got REALLY dark and it probably didn't end when '90 rolled around. They made it so easy that even the Asians could have built crap and Americans would have bought it. America actually built decent cars at one time, but they got fat and happy and giddy and it was party time!. When they woke up from their stupor, it was all over but the shoutin. Unfortunately, it will never again be what it was, all because of a little closing of the eyelids.

It didn't get really bad until about '72. The emissions demands the government made the industry just wasn't ready for them. I ripped off the emission controls on several cars. My Mach I has zero emission controls and it did come from the factory with a couple things. It still does have a PCV thats it but it serves another purpose. In '68 it wasn't bad at all. Maybe if you got a California car they had the smog pump earlier. Ford had the Vacuum operated head light covers (that were cool) on them Cougars.

This has to be a joke or you have never worked on an old German car where it really is all vacuum controlled down to the power locks. My old Porsche is bad enough with EFI + vacuum overlay for the emissions and HVAC. If a heater flapper door controller goes bad it can cause your engine to run rough. Now you tell me what is the problem with everything run off of vacuum.
