the new generation of kids!
This is my generation, and I truly am scared for the future. I believe I should have been born in the past. People nowadays have zero respect for anybody but themselves and they don't want to work, but think they deserve to get everything and anything they want. People's work ethic is below zero today. It truly is disappointing.
Okay here's my view on "culture" today. It's easy for older folks to say "today's youth is so much worse than we were when we were young" - same thing their grandparents said about their generation. And although there are many things that have declined morally, there are a great number of things that we have improved on in recent generations. I'd say the greatest decline has to be overall morals of what we see and what we view as acceptable, especially on TV. A very close second would be work ethic, which seems to really such among my generation. But as an overall human race - I believe we've improved how we treat each other. I mean, who on this forum has slaves? There is nothing more disgusting and degrading to humankind than the idea of slavery in my opinion. What gives anyone the right to think they can "own" another person? And segregation - such a huge number of people are still alive today who lived during the wake of the civil rights movement. Many of those who degrade "the youth of today" spent much of their youth thinking it was perfectly acceptable to put themselves a grade above another race; thinking it was perfectly acceptable to make them take a back seat on the bus; thinking it was perfectly acceptable to not allow this other race to use the same facilities or schools. Culture is culture; some things get better, some things get worse. But I can't completely agree when I hear someone talk about today's youth like we're all going to hell in a handbasket when the youth of every generation has had their own evils.

I think what alot of people must remember when they talk about younger generations is that as a member of the prior generations they are responsible for making the world what it is today. They played a major role in the future generations lives and how they will live. Each generation overall strives to work towards making things better for the future. Unfortunately each generation becomes disgusted when what they strive for has unintended consequences that they might not have forseen.
Take our digital revolution for example. These advancements in technology were not made to have an ill effect on humanity. To me though, these days of instant gratification are somewhat responsible for what we perceive as some of the problems with the "youth" of today. I was a kid in the 80's & 90's. We did have video game systems like the atari, nintendo and sega but they really left much to the imagination. If you wanted to go on some great adventure you went out and got your friends and played outside letting your imaginations run wild. you built forts, dug holes, and created your own worlds. Now days a kid picks up the video game controller or handheld device and they are imersed into a fantasy world instantly. If they want social interaction they dont trek down the street to their friends house, they connect to the wifi and are instantly connected to servers with thousands of other players.
This is what I feel has created the issue with todays youth and their sense of entitlement. Instant gratification. The amount of work and energy that has to be put into getting a result is almost nill.
Vice versa I think that younger generations resent past generations for what they see as mistakes they made. How can you criticize me when your generation was responsible for this or that. What they dont realize sometimes is that the past generation is the reason you are here today. That one day there will be a little snot nose punk disrespecting you and how your generation lived. But as they say hindsight is always 20/20.
Ok. My philosophical take is over

However - I'm not responsible for some of the young punks on here (y'all know who you are - one of these bootlikkers is in this thread) apparent selective lack of basic manners - nary a 'please' or 'thank-you'. Snots like that simply deserve to be ignored.
I'm not responsible for the humourless, mannerless, thin-skinned individuals that seem to squat here at random, asking 'questions' or seeking 'advice', whereas in reality their decisions are already preconceived - woe unto any who actually try to dispute their opinions - it ends badly in a lot of cases - and YOU take the fall. Notice they are invarably Millennials...
I'm not responsible for the twits so immersed in their smartphones that they run into me in the halls at work - look up in shock, but nary a 'sorry' or 'excuse me' is forthcoming - as if it's my fault! It happens so often it's become a sport - like bowling. The ones who often fall down our stairs? Karma - akin to a tree falling in the forest as far as I'm concerned. I blame our BYOD (Google it - I'm lazy, lol) initiative - ALSO launched by youngin's .... hmmmm.
I'm not responsible for the crybabies who are astounded that they have not become VP's after a week's employment, don't have a 6-figure salary yet, nor a corner office. Whose parents actually want to meet with HR demanding to know why little Johhny or Sally got such an unremarkable performance review, and are now unconsolable ( yeah - they are still living at home... 3 squares, no chores, lol...)
Sure - you can account for some of that via upbringin', but not ALL of it. They are not living in a bubble - they are surrounded by peers AND non-peers alike. No one is THAT stupid (I hope!)
Something ELSE is going on here - and I, personally, suspect aliens, (given that the Roosky Commies are all gone)

MY foil hat is working

One thing I have seen with the younger generation is they seem to have forgotten that things cost money. If you try to not give them stuff they claim you are infringing on their rights. I always wonder where they get the right to have stuff provided free. What happened to the rights of those providing the stuff? It is no different than asking someone for $100 then getting upset that they don't give it to you.
This is my generation. I just turned 18 and Ive been making my own money for the better part of the past 10 years mowing lawns and what not till i could legally get a job. Some of the kids nowdays make me sick the way they treat others and their parents, I can always feel a lack of respect in their voiceand it Honestly makes me sick. My parents have always helped me out when it is needed and for a grad/bday present signed over the title to my truck which I thank them greatly for but anything else I want I have to work to make the money to aford it. I can thank my parents because they have taught me what other kids seem to lack which is respect, a good work ethic and to be kind to others. Those are the best thing they have given me yet.
another to add to this generation... WOW what a set of people to show where the world is going. like all of you had said every generation has it good, and bad eggs. but bad eggs are starting to outnumber the good. i live in a small community and have a graduating class of maby 60 and i can't count all the kids who have convicted of a crime on one hand, before long im gonna need to use my toes... What a group of idiots... I have my moments, but i woulda done the exact opposite of those girls, i may have bought a box and paid for 2 or 3. that is my rant.
