Yup I'm broke now too. All those tools you see are about $6000.

GREAT quality but you don't get a lot of tools for the money.. LOL

I was really at odds because I bought a 1/2" drive general set and it came with a 1/2" ratchet, 2 extensions, breaker bar and shallow sockets and that cost $575.. Wasn't sure how much I would use it but after looking at it, it's good for suspension work..

I'm sure I don't have to tell you but when you work with tools everyday all day you DEF get what you pay for. And with snap-on they have been the best tools I have ever worked with. But cost is DEF a factor when selecting tools..

I was thinking 1980 prices....
I'm way off with my estimating. I have some snapon tools, but the majority are gray and sears
Thats a lot of dough. Got pics of your tool box?
Are you wrenching at a dealer?

$6000 for that small pile of sockets, screwdrivers, and pliers? WTF?
I understand quality and all, but that seems a little ridiculous.

I'll post up pics of my tools box this weekend. Sockets wrenches, prybars, extensions and a whole bunch of other crap. yeah snap-on is getting a bit crazy with there prices. Hell for a 12 pc 3/8" deep 8-19mm costs $239.

What I find funny about the 2 links right above is the 1/2" drive set is as much at the 3/8" drive set. LOL I know the one set has more pieces to it but same price..

I did look at MAC tools but there is no MAC guys driving around in my area or even Matco. Plus the tool guy can either replace my ratchet on the spot or give it a new head and I'm good to go. I don't have to drive down to sears for a new tool. If he's not at the shop I work at that day I can call him up if he's in the area, he will either come over when he's free or I can meet him at another garage. I think with the price your paying for service also.

It adds up quick. I'm replacing some of my craftsman stuff I've been using for years. A lot of my craftsman stuff is cracked or worn out. I know craftsman has a warranty on their hand tools but I need to replace it with better quality.

Not working in a dealership, don't like that flat rate pay they have going right now but maybe in the future I might look into it. I kind of like working on the same manufacturor than working in a independant garage with all makes and models. At a dealer most cars are all the same, use the same components and stuff.

But as I said before snap-on is expensive for what you get.

I used Mac and Matco for the most part and gave most of my Mac to my grandson. After 40+ years of hard use they were still in remarkably good condition. I did have a few Snap-on but found that It WAS NOT necessary to pay Snap-on's insane prices to get true professional quiality tools. I didn't abuse my tools but I did use them to make my living for all those years. If I can buy 40% more tools for the same amount in Mac or Matco, I would make the same choice any day.

I can't justify the prices... not one bit. Regardless of quality, warranty etc. There would be 5 times that many tools in my box that will do the same job with equivalent standards. Not knocking snap on but little research will say you are buying the name more than the tool. All in all you bought some great tools.. just paid to much for them.

Yea, not a snap-on fan. Good tools though, I'm just not into paying for some guys truck, insurance, etc. He comes around once a week, I won't go without a serviceable tool for a week.

Most backyard mechanics (me) have no need for top of the line tools and wouldn't dream of spending a ton of money on Snapon.
Even though i am a firm believer in "You get what you pay for" and i don't mind paying more for better or some times the best, Snapon is not justified for my own personal use. I however do have some snapon's, including 56 inch top/bottom boxes , The price was good and after looking at all the junk toolboxes (the ones i seen, and i looked everywhere) out there, it HAD to be something of better Quality

JForestZ34, i believe takes great pride in his tools, that he makes a living with. And If that pride rubbs off on the work he does on our vehicles, I'm all for Snapon.

Snap-On has gotten completely out of control with their prices -- good tools for sure, but nowhere near worth what they ask for them. It's pretty much become a "vanity" thing amongst the trades to "one-up" the other guys in the shop with how much money I can stick into my toolbox......

A while back i had a job which required using tools, sometimes "not for their intended purposes", at places where the equipment I was working on was mission critical. Shutting down the process b/c I broke the tool & couldn't finish wasn't an option. I asked a mechanic buddy of mine what to buy. He said "I got a whole box of tools waiting to back to Sears for exchange, I've never broken a Snap-On."

Okey-dokey.
