First Car?
I owned a few cars before I had my license. First one was an 82 toyota pickup single cab 2wd 22r. Drivers door was held in my a ratchet strap (caved in from an accident) and had a plexiglass window. Clutch was all but gone and a full radiator would make it about 5 miles before it leaked out and began to overheat. But it was free, I was 15 and lived on a gravel road 12 miles outside of a small town. I eventually sold it (believe that) for $100. Saved some money up and bought a 73 Plymouth satellite when I got my license.
Mine was a 1969 Oldsmobile Delta 88 -- four doors and pea green (think Legend Lime Metallic from the '05 Mustang) in color. It was a hand-me-down from my parents and I DESPISED that thing when I first got it, primarily because it was impossible to make that car look "cool" in any way!
However, after owning it for a short while, I discovered the joys of having a 455 Rocket engine with a 4-bbl carburetor at your disposal! Needless to say, the combination of the heavy foot of a 16-year-old boy and a big block engine quickly wreaked havoc on the transmission, and it was subsequently replaced by a 1975 Chevrolet Vega hatchback......
Ahh -- the good old days of trying to coak a few extra years of service out of well-worn cars -- can't say I miss them.....

He drove that car as his daily vehicle well into the late-90's, and by the end of its life the endless string of salty Minnesota winters had pretty much reduced it to a rattling jalopy held together by not much more than rust!
He always tells the story of how he sat down in it one day after about 25-years of ownership, looked around the interior and said to himself, "You know, I'm really getting sick of this car!"

My brother-in-law purchased one of those brand new back in the day and I remember riding around in it and thinking it was one of the nicest cars I had ever seen in my life! To this day I can close my eyes and see the view of the dashboard from the back seat!

Looked almost identical to this, same wheels and was even primered like it.
The first few years of that bodystyle ('71 - '73) were really attractive vehicles! They got a little gaudy-looking as they moved deeper into the mid-70's, but so did most vehicles from that era.
My first was a 1970 Chevy Impala 2 door. Bought it from a friends dad who had just put a brand new crushed velvet interior in. It was a 400 car converted to a 350, and I blew up the motor I bought it with. Replaced it with a 350 HO long block, which I promptly blew up after about 500 miles while idling at a stop sign. Rebuilt that and I got tired of spending money on it and sold it not too long after that. Sold it to a buddy, he sold it to another buddy who still has it 16 years later. I have tried to buy her back, but she needs a ton of work and he isn't willing to sell. He claims he is planning on starting to rebuild it later this year or early next year. God I loved that car. I don't have any digital pics of it but it looked like this with a silver top instead of black.
'65 Austin Healey Sprite MkIII ... 1098cc motor, 1500 lbs, this car was a lot of fun drifting on smooth dirt roads. No pics, because I'm not sure they had cameras back then
I have very fond memories of my $500 rides ... the Sprite, a '68 Mustang, a '72 Olds 98 (455 cid), and a '72 Coupe De Ville (472 cid). I didn't have much cash, but I always tried to make them into some kind of decent ride. The Olds and the Caddy were very clean ...
