Back in the day, smoking was very commonplace on airplanes. My '64 Cherokee has a cigarette lighter in it. Now its banned and I believe the FAA requires placards stating this. PLUS medical vehicles (ambulances, helicopters, etc) with O2 have to have placards everywhere stating no smoking as well. So they are killing two birds with one stone.
