Crap or not, if you speed you are eventually going to get caught no matter what you are driving. You gotta pay to play.

That is (as Col. Potter would say) "horse hockey".

With over 31 years life as a Trooper, I know from intimate experience on the other side of a MR-7 / KR-11 / KR-10sp / Hawk / Golden Eagle / Lidar .... and VASCAR (not to mention good old fashioned "pace method") that "that" ain't the case ...
... and so I say "you show us the stats to back up your claim" (after all, you made the claim, you opened that can, I think it's up to you to back it up) ...
... otherwise (whatever that means?)

Truth is ....

.... I took what come, but a fast truck was "good" to catch in the act.

This was a billboard in the median of I-95 north of Richmond in late '70s early '80s.

My first car was a 1978 Plymouth Gran Fury with 440 4bbl / A-727 TF / 2.76 rear gears, .... and that's a Kustom Signals MR-7 hanging on it. This shot behind the scale house of the old Dumfries scales before the widened I-95 .... the last time. Then, it was only 6 lanes total past the scales.

My last car was a 2006 CVPI issued July 2006 and turned in when I retired in 2010, the car was reissued and driven by my replacement until he turned it in Dec 2011 at over 150K miles. That is the front antenna of the Golden Eagle peaking out near the spot light, there was another in the rear window, the radar has capability to track from stationary mode front or rear, moving same direction mode front or rear, and moving opposite direction mode front or rear.

Later ..........

You broke the law, you pay! The year i turned 16 I was issued a total of 3 speeding tickets, a C&I, and numerous seatbelt tickets,(I used to drive like an idiot, then I joined the local fire department and seen firsthand what happens) since then, in the last 9 years, I've been pulled over maybe twice, and received a ticket for failure to display a front license plate. It pays to change your habits!!!!!

My dad likes to tell a story about how he got ticketed by a cop for something one time. I don't think it was speeding though. He thought he was in the right so he actually went to court to fight it. The cop didn't show up, so the judge threw out the ticket.

I don't care how many cops on here disagree with me when I say this: the only purpose of speed limits is to raise revenue by fining people who exceed them. I'm a civil engineer, we design roads, but we don't get to set the speed limits. Those are set arbitrarily, there isn't any scientific reasoning to it.

If you don't want a ticket, don't ever go more than five miles over. I've met many cops on the street going five over and never had one stop me.

KDOT .... I didn't set limits, I just wrote the tickets and made arrests and sometimes, just warned them. It's a public highway and the limits are well advertised as are the other rules / laws and we all know the rules, and in driving on the road you submit yourself to those rules. That way I know what to expect of fellow drivers, they know what to expect of me. We all do as we agree to when we come out there, we all are safer on the public roadway which we all pay for and use and benifit by.

The reason for fines is simple ... "Laws without consequences are but mere suggestions". We live in a civilised society in that we feel it's better to cause forfeiture of something of value for violations like "money" or "time" as opposed to "limbs" or "digits" or "your head".

I don't care what is in the mind of the Virginia State Legislature when passing the laws or in the mind of the Virginia Commonwealth Transportation Board when setting speed limits in accordance with those laws. They are well marked and reasonable when viewed in lighht of the wide variety of drivers and weather conditions and types of vehicles on the roadway. I don't know the fines in Ks nor do I ever intend to discover same, they are reasonable in Va.

We have no disagreements, just giving some insight from a perspective different from your's or your daddy's.

Hey Alex ..... I liked the '78 myself, but thoughg a little slower on top end (computer limited 130), the '06 CVPI was a better handling and better stopping car and never once in it's life needed to have the front end alligned nor have it's trans repaired or rear end rebuilt and brakes lasted 3 times longer and didn't fade as fast on a persuit and opnl;y had plugs replaced twice in 150K.

That '78 had several sets valve cover gasketsm, plugs every 20K at least, frt brake padfs every 8K, tires never over 5K, a rear end rebuild, trans worked on twice, belts every few months and the front end upper control arms were a PITA to keep set properly. Used bolts in slots to set and I've seen guys use pipes on wrenches and still you'ld hit the brakes or make a hard turn one day and "POP" and the UCA slipped in at the top.

But yeah .... I loved that '78 just the same. It was about wore out at 80K when it went back to auction. No computor limits, 140 on speedo and I've seen it past that often ..... both hands on the wheel.

This one evening a few years back, I was in the same spot, heard a trucker on CB way off talking to others, they were telling him to slow down, he said he couldn't that his wife and he had an arguement and she said that she was getting pregnant that night and that it was up to him if he wanted to be there for it. They talked as they got closer, seems she was upset with him always on the road. I had the right side window down some, that way I could hear a really fast car or truck before it was in front of me in my "spot". Suddenl;y, I could hear this loud wind noise, a TT at 100 makes a lot of wind noise and the tires sing loud and clear.

I picked up my new digital, turned it on, held it up just pointed out windshield and other finger on the hold button. He screemed past in a loud rush and I released the hold and hit the take button and and just dropped the camera in the pass seat and got the car moving .... 96 MPH .... He was arrested for reckless driving .... and if his wife got pregnant, she did it without him as he was still waiting for his boss to post bond when I went home at 11 that night.

Later, I saw I caught him before he passed the trees and cropped the picture.

When wife gave me that first digital camera, I took it to work all the time and one night I had stopped this car had finished writing the ticket or whate I forget what I did with him that's on the sholder .... but as I sat waiting for him to go on ..... I heard trucker on CB telling "Smokey, you got a fast one coming if you turn off your lights" .... I left my lights on, even my strobes though as I didn't want to get hit. I asked trucker more, I was on the SB side, the trucker had passed going NB and had met a fast car somewhere behind me. In a short time, I saw the fast car coming and it didn't slow down. I checked it with rear antenna, 100 and then 99 and switched to front and had time to shoot it in back for a photo op too .... 99 and it went 100 as the cosine angle straightened out.

I had plenty of time to prepare thanks to that NB trucker ... you can see I have the car in "N" ready to drop in gear which on that car, released the P-brake automatically. I think it was one of those Oldsmobile's that had that strange engine .... "Aurora" maybe? That's it in right lane passing, didn't even move over! SoaB! I caught it .... was a "preacher" from Ga. (he said and so it looked judging by clothing and stuff) ... on his bag phone ... and he said he passed a car on the shoulder but he would never pass a police car going 100 mph. "Are you sure?" he asked. He passed me and I had my blue strobes on .... and so he was arrested and his car towed that night.

I titled this 99 in a 65 as that's what the pic shows, but the charge was "Reckless Driving (speed 100/65 mph zone" 46.2-862 CoVa.

Thought you might enjoy!

It's been my experience that people driving to slow are more of a danger to others, than people driving to fast. If the government didn't want you to speed they would take away your license and your vehicle as soon as they caught you speeding. Just offering some insight from someone who isn't a lifetime gubmint employee.

No .... the lawfully operated vehicles aren't the one's posing the danger. The danger is posed by those being operated in an unlawful manner. There are "Speed Limits" and where the need has been demonstrated, "Minimum Speed Limits" as well so we've covered those "too slow" and just because we didn't call you to come witness it when we wrote them hardly means they didn't get written or even towed off the highway so marked.

Your own words prove my point. It ain't a question of what the "government" wants which is why they don't take away your license and your vehicle as soon as you are caught speeding ....
.... it's what the people want. People like your friends, neighbors, associates, family, strangers across state even .... and they pressure legislators to present and vote on bills in the legislature through the power of "the vote". It is the people who vote to whom the "government" thus answers to. It's our representative form of government that is a "democratic republic".

Who or what is a "lifetime gubmint employee"?
