Beware of Craigslist...

Ad on my local CL...

"There are many ads being posted these days for people wanting free items, leftover garage sale items, etc. for them to resell. I understand that times are hard and people are unemployed. Based on this, I contacted one that had posted here in the items wanted and he quickly came to my home that afternoon to collect items. He was so friendly and helpful. Looking back on this now, I should have flashed a red light in my head as he was chatty about other items around my house- as in how cool this item is or that item is nice- where did I get it.... that kind of conversation.... Unfortunately, what I know now is that HE WAS SCOPING OUT MY HOUSE!! I got home from work the next day to find EVERY ITEM in my backyard and side yard GONE!!! My neighbor even said he saw the guy back and he stepped out to the sidewalk and chatted with him for a few minutes! The thief told my neighbor that he had come back to finish loading the items I was giving him from the day before!! Since my neighbor had seen him there the day before, he really didn't think anything of it! I cannot believe I was robbed like this! I never got a phone number for him as all our correspondences were by email... which just so happens that emails to that address by me today and getting bounced back as 'delivery failure'!!!! I am so sick over this!! Apparently, he made no attempt to enter my home and steal---I guess even a thief has his limits! Either that or he knew the alarm would get him!
I, for one, will NEVER BE duped by anyone on here again!!! I am quite sure that as soon as this thief sees this warning that he will flag it so he can continue his 'business'!! Of course the police are investigating, but their response was why would I be giving items to an individual instead of a documented, non-profit charity! That is exactly what I will do in the future! Anyone I gift items to will have to produce identity and a receipt from a 501c3 charity! Please protect yourself and do likewise!!! There are plenty of these organizations around that do really good work! I am so angry that I did not go that way to begin with! What a world we live in where you cannot help your fellow man!!
I hope many people get to read this before this criminal flags it! Feel free to copy and repost my story to anyone or any site you like and save others the grief of having their yards cleaned out!!!
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!!"

BBQ Pit, lawn table and chairs, walkway lights...probably about $400 total... a few things I'd hate to have to replace cuz some slug won't get a job and would rather take mine...

I have no respect for thieves. If I saw that guy again, I'd hate to be him!

First mistake was meeting someone on CL and inviting them home.

Always take them to the cheap hotel instead. Rookies.

If I ever sell stuff on craigslist I always have them meet me in the Local Police Departments lobby, that seems to weed out the knuckleheads
