The official SX/MX thread

Just a thread that we can discuss all things supercross, motocross, arena cross, cross country, trails, industry, etc.

I'll kick it off with a track animation of Round 4 in Oakland California for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross and FIM world Championship this coming weekend January 28th 2012. I prediction is Villopoto for the win, Reed for 2nd, and Dungey for 3rd

I don't think Dungey moving to KTM was the smartest move. He was doing great on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki. I wonder if KTM offered a better contract. I love anything motorcycle! I have had my fair share of dirt bikes and quads. I also had a 2006 cbr1000rr for my first street bike and sold it and had a 2005 screaming eagle V-rod and sold it. I just sold my 2009 250f. I am looking to get a N.O.S. left over 2010 or 2011 yz450f. I have always been partial to yamaha. I will own another Harley and get another street bike. Probably a 2007 or 2008 R1 and I want a 2006 screaming eagle v-rod. I might go try out the KTM 350SXF. Has anyone heard if they are a decent bike? I have not had a chance to read my transworld MX or my MX action mags ia a long time. I am out of the loop and have some catching up to do!

What's the difference between supercross and motorcross? I know there is a difference, just not sure what it is.

SX = stadium races, manmade track and obstacles. Main event is 20 laps for the big boys and 15 laps for the Lites.

MX = outdoor tracks, mostly natural terrain. At the national level, the races are 2 motos, each is 30 minutes + 2 laps. Overall winner is the best combined points.

I've been following MX and SX since 1976. This season is shaping up pretty well. I think Dungey will do just fine on the KTM - he already has gotten them their first main event win ever.

However, Villopoto is riding the best. If not for two first lap crashes in 3 events, he would have 3 wins, IMO. He is on rails. Barring injury, he will comeback and take the title.

It doesn't air live this weekend. The big bikes air at like 11am on CBS and the Lites air at I think 4pm on SPEED.

Dungey was pretty much raised by Roger Decoster through the Suzuki Amateur Program. He was pretty upset when Suzuki let Decoster go right after Dungey won both the SX and MX titles. He Rode out the remainder of his contract with Suzuki and new He was going with Decoster at KTM long before. KTM definitely needs some improvement in the USA. They dominate overseas but struggle in the US. Decoster and Dungey could very well be the help KTM needs, seeing as how they already got their first main event win two weeks ago.

Nobody can match potos speed right now. His lap times are nearly a second faster than those of Reed, Stewart, and Dungey. The kid is just on another level and after sweeping EVERYTHING last year his confidence is through the roof. Like you stated he went down in lap 1 of the main last weekend and was half a track behind the pack. He passed almost everybody to finish 4th and he would most likely have passed Stewart if he had just one more lap. Kid is on fire.

I actually think Dungey going to KTM was a smart move b/c of Roger being there. Seem like we have a few things in common besides F-150's. I currently own a 2009 ZX10R and a 2011 YZ450F and a 08 Raptor 700. I was thinking of selling the YZ450F(5hrs on it) and buying a 2012 KX250F

I almost forgot we're both Transworld Motorcross subscribers lol

In fairness to KTM, they DO dominate enduro and cross country in the USA, and they also make some of the sickest dual sport bikes on the planet.

KTM just never been able to compete with the Japanese at the highest levels of SX in the USA (they've done a little better in MX). But Dungey will be a contender in both MX and SX this year. Marvin Musquain (sp?) from France is super fast in the Lites, too. And Ken Roczen will be racing the east coast Lites as well as the outdoors for KTM. He's a serious title threat.

I think Dungey looks good on the bike. Reed looks good, RV is a beast but Stewart just doesnt look himself. He had a concern with the Pirelli tires and I wonder if thats the issue with him thus far

Yeah, I'm not liking Stewart's title chances very much.

He'll win a few races, though.

Even when he was the fastest man on the planet, he had trouble winning titles.

Hopefully Stewart can stop the self inflicted damage this year, as well as avoid taking out any of the other top riders. Although a little feud with Chad or either of the Ryans will only add to the excitment.

Also not a big fan of Jame's decision to ride SX only. He's a great outdoor rider. He should be out there proving it.

input

The fastest guy doesn't always win the race or the title.if that were the case,#7 would have more than 2.my buddy Durham will be a contender in the east lites.James got two problems, one is the yamaha,2 is he is out of his element when some is as fast as him, windham proved that last year.

I think Stewart will be riding outdoors this year, I'm pretty sure I heard him say that at the JG Press Conference

Roczen is a beast. That kid has the skillz to pay the bills.

I think Stewart's main problem is riding over his head. It almost always end up biting him in the butt. It looks to me this year that he has toned it down a bit in an attempt to finish all the races and have a better shot at the title.

I don't think it was really Stewart's decision to ride SX only. When he was with san manuel yamaha he had a meeting with the team about why they don't do outdoors and they basically told him they don't make any money from outdoors so they are participating. I believe he will ride outdoors this year now that he is with JGR.
