Any Personal Experiance with a Suburban?

Seeing if any of yall had any expierance with a suburban? Our Expy took a dump on us and i have to find something asap and i found a 99 GMC suburban that looks to be in great shape.. Just seeing if anyone knew how reliable they are and if its generally a good vehicle other than being a chevy ...

My daughter and son in law had a 1999. Put 154,000 on it over the last 9 tears. It was pretty good. No engine trouble, but had some air conditioner repairs that never got fixed correctly.

good vehicles, but i just dont know that i would advise anyone to buy a 12 year old vehicle as a daily driver.

there is a chance it is a great car that was well taken care of, or it could be clean looking vehicle that is ready to drop a motor or trans that cost more than the vehicle is worth.

i would be looking at 04 or newer less than 130k miles or a vehicle that old from someone you know that takes care of their stuff.

i have a 97 f250, that i use as a shop truck, that is reliable but i have owned it since day one so i know it has not been thru a flood and it has had regular service.
remember that most guy here with a vehicle that old have owned it since day one and have taken care it.

I also had this thing bookmarked from when I was looking at trucks a week ago. My guess it's probably sold, but I'll link it none the less.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/cto/2700344357.html
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/cto/2689480315.html Probably sold too, but another good deal if you can overlook the hood it looks like someone jumped on.

Might not be something you want to put the wife, in but for a guy that would be a good deal.

The last Suburban my dad owned was a 1995 and he sold it in 2003 with 254,000 miles on it and the new owner finally junked her this past spring. They go forever if you take care of them.

I understand what you are saying but i will not buy a vehicle i have to make payments on, its cash or nothing for me. With Christmas here and having just been out 3k+ on this expedition a month ago money is a little tight..

Yupp, my dad to this day misses Black Beauty. Although it was nicknamed "The Hearse" by the employees because when him and the VP showed up together in the same vehicle someone was going home permanently.

Those Suburbans are subject to window motors going bad....and some at the rate of every year needing replacement. They're actually worse than the crap in an F150. The Suburban is also an A/C techs best dream- yer gonna spend a lot on it to keep it running. Same with the power steering unit. The good side is the 5.7 engine which doesn't need any explanation. But if the engine has over heated, expect to have to put head gaskets on it. They also are prone to eating a lot of gas and considering the mileage you can put on one out in Angelo, I think you might wanna keep looking.

That is one and only bad thing i have heard on these so far is the window motors.. As far as the MPG's it seems alot of people are pulling off 16 to 18mpgs highway which is the wifes trip. Im not going to jump on this vehicle right this minute but after looking at the other junk people are selling in this town it keeps coming back as the nicest and best driving vehicle so far.
