Need some info please!!!

We are looking for a expy for the wife... I have found one here in town and it looks real nice... The only thing that concerns me is that he has 22inch wheels on it... It is a 4x4 model... My question is there any chance that these 22 inch wheels have hurt the internals like the tranny, rearend etc? Its a EB and looks like it has been taken care of.. Let me know if i should worry with these big wheels on it..

here in a link

I wouldn't worry about the aftermarket wheels unless the backspacing was way off and the rims were sticking far out from the body of the vehicle. The wheels might make for slower acceleration and slightly less breaking performance, but I'd only be worried about damage if an exaggerated backspacing was putting undue stress on the suspension components.

Ok, in the ad he mentioned he has put new upper and lower balljoints but that could have been regualr maintance. Wouldnt there be a pretty big difference in fuel mileage also? i would think from 16's or maybe 17's since its 4x4 to 22's would be a a pretty big difference. if i do get this truck i will put original wheels back on it sometime or another.. Im not much for these wheels that are on it, look a little fugly to be

No question the larger rim and tire package will have a negative impact on fuel economy. Ball joints wouldn't bother me on a 13-year-old vehicle unless it was an extremely low-mileage truck -- for what he's asking, I doubt that's the case.

The wheels will just give it a slightly rougher ride. It looks like the over all tire size is the same. I have a set of factory wheels for that expy ( the tires are no good). I think I even have all of the center caps But it's about 8 hours from here to there, plus I don't want any 22"s

I was thinking the same thing. The overall tire diameter has not been changed.. Therefor no added damage to the trans. I would worry about shocks, ball joints and things like that. They would take a harder hit on bumps with less tire and more wheel.

No the wheels won't hurt it. Transmission fluid should of been changed every 30k miles. Not doing that is the only thing that can hurt the trans.

I decided to keep looking.. They guy would'nt tell me what fuel mileage he is getting , so i did some reading and found out that a 4x4 expy with the 5.4 alot of people are seeing anywhere from 10-12 mpg in town and around 14-16 on the highway.. Im going to keep looking for a 2wd with the 4.6 or maybe the 5.4.

Ball joints is no big deal. I replaced mine at 112000, and I am currently looking at doing it agin at 175000. I bleive most if not all teh 4X4 Expd have teh 4R100 tranny, the same unit used behind many a powerstroke. As far as mileage, mine with Load range D 33s is averaging right around 13 mpg combined. It was slightly better with lighter 33s. Probably about 14 combined. The best mileage I have ever seen is 15.5, all highway headed east. Towing a 6000 lb, 6X14 trailer I got 9.5.

The trip computer on mine says 14.8. Mixed driving, but did just make a trip to Houston.
Also just had the ball joints replaced. I had been greasing them with an injector needle. But the rubber was gone. It was getting 15.4 untill the ethenol was increased in the gas.
The average before the trip was 14.4 mixed local driving. I do believe the ball joints helped the mileage some, because they were pretty bad.

Isnt that about what your truck gets? I mean your truck is basically the same as an Expedition with a different cargo area.

And dont expect a big difference in mpg between the 4.6 and 5.4 and 2wd/4wd.

My brother has a 4.6 in his truck and gets 17-18 mpg and my 5.4 gets 15-17.
