Low flying military jets are common around here but, yesterday I saw a tail less delta wing. I haven't seen one of those in 40 years.
My first thought was, 'What has Obama done to us?'
In this mornings paper there's an article about Joint NORAD exercises with the Canadians.
So, the Canadians are flying Delta wings? No wonder they got health care up there.

No guys, it looked just like a F-106 Delta Dart that was stationed here back in the seventies.

Google was no help.
There was a contractor who used to play 'bad guy' for the base here but, they used small corporate jets.
I'll call the base Public Affairs tomorrow to see if they can shed some light.

The only thing the F106 or F102 are used for any more are target drones. Canada flies the F18.
Another possibility is the Eurofighter. Although to my knowledge Canada does not fly it.

India is making a delta wing fighter called the Tejas that looks alot like the old 102 and 106, but I don't think you would find one in the USA.

I checked some websites re: Candaian airpower, and nothing with a delta wing.

Dave, that's the closest in looks.
The one I saw didn't have cunnards like the Eurofighter.
Saab makes a delta wing but it also has cunnards.
I even thought maybe there was a privately owned F-106 around here.

Highly unlikely you will find a private F106. More likely, an F102 which looks almost exactly like the F106 except for the tail, which comes to a point at the top instead of squared off.
Raoul, this may not be directly related, but how old are you and how good is your eyesight?
I've heard of many plane sighting of people claiming to be SR-71s and such only to be a Velocity XL-5 or something

And the winner is......Wookie.
Public Affairs has a neat trick where the person with the answers is always out and you have to leave a message. That way they know what you know and what you want to know.
The newspaper article only mentioned NORAD which is the US & Canada.
In past training missions the Civil Air Patrol has played 'bad guy'.
Several years back when DOD got a blank check for everything, a local contractor leased corporate jets and hired pilots to play 'bad guys with speed'.
It will be interesting to see if PA calls back to confirm the Mirage and which of the nine Countries who have the Mirage participated.
At the very least they will know that the general public has an eye on the skies and they just can't omit and not get called on it. If a military jet that my tax dollars didn't buy, flies over my house I should at least be able to ask about it.
The worst that can happen is I will get audited...for the next ten years.

I would not bet against the USAF having a few Mirages around. If for no other reason that the French sell to anybody, as do the Russians and they may be flying against them again like they did in the Gulf War.
Just like the Army has Russian T-55 and T-72 tanks.

The Mirage 2000 is still on active duty in the French Air Force. The PR people might have meant NATO and said NORAD. The press is pretty bad about dealing with the military's alphabet soup. It might have been a Rafale. They have canards but they are close to the wing and at some angles will blend into the profile.
