Green technology on fire!

a month ago i purchased 15 of these with the hopes of a 40K hour life, and 7 w of power consumption with a higher lumens output, but after the first 10 were dead after a less than 5 hours on most of them, 2 died after just 2 hours, and 2 were partially DOA, but after the first 10 died before the 4th day of use i decided to go back to my CCFL's to prevent hazard of a fire, 2 of them started to burn and melted.

seems this is not the only green tech to catch fire...

That was a chevy VOLT.

Altho i must say those curly new light bulbs do not get hott at all. used one the other day on a lift at work for under a car and i touched it after 3 hours of it being on thought i was getting burned but i could hold the light and it was not hott at all

Neither of those pictures show a Chevrolet Volt.

Shifty, that last one looks like an old 1970s Ford or something.

OP, where did you buy them?

you can get them from amazon.com but the cheapest place i found them was from ebay. the seller is working on trying to figure out why they failed and either refund me my money or replace them. i bought 2 other styles of LED ones. i got some .5W candelabra bulbs and those work great! also bought some smaller 3W bulbs and no trouble out of those ive left them on for almost a day and no problems out of them.

these work great and are twice as bright as the CCFL ones

these are not too bright but they last and put off enough light

Weather or not if they're new technology or old technology there's always a risk of fire if the device is poorly put together and if substandard parts are used.....

for a 120VAC step-down instead of a small transformer they use a make shift rectifier out of 4 diodes, 2 larger non dissipative resistors, 1 small resistor and then a moderate capacitor, these things get hot. they're down fall is likely due excessive heat from the resistors or they are using under rated diodes to clip the AC signal.

I could believe it. Look at where the seller is from. No thanks. I see no name of the type of diode they use or anything.

I've played with some 120v LEDs (I don't like AC very much) and I've seen good ones and I've seen bad ones. Of course I don't see any right now, but I sure as heck wouldn't be buying from a seller from Hong Kong on eBay either!

all CCFL and LED bulbs along with 90% of the electronics in america are made in china. its is unavoidable. i just skipped 3 middle men from buying these from a local store for 25 dollars.

Did they come with any information? Something that says anything along the lines of 110v/60Hz or 220v/50Hz? I bet you got European style lights with an E27 base. Were they a little harder to screw in to your lamp? The E27 base is 1mm bigger than the standard US style bulb socket, but I they might fit?? The difference between US and European electrical standards though..... would probably smoke all the resistors and what not inside the LED bulb.

like i said before i bought 2 other styles suitable for my fixtures that are based on the 110-120v 60hz american standard bulbs that are holding up fine. its this style that is having the failure. the others are 2 months old and i leave them on 6-8 hours at a time with no trouble. they dont even get hot.
