Look what I got.
Look what I got.

The story.
My wife wanted a dog, and I already have a cat.
So i wondered where would I find a good dog, and it wont cost me a arm and a leg?
I looked up the animal shelter closest to work, and went there on lunch.
I have never seen anything so sad, all the dogs and cats they had just wanted someone to love them and take care of them.
I would have took them all if I could have afforded it.
However, I could only pick one and I wanted a younger dog. I found her (sugar) in the puppy room and just feel in love with her.
They had some very pretty dogs and cats, one kitten was so cute I would have gotten her if I had the extra $35.
Ended up getting her after looking around at some of the other pups, something about this dog just stood out to me I guess.
She was so scared I had to pick her up and carry her to the front office to fill out the paper.
Some one had turned her in, and its pretty clear neither that person or the shelter where very kind.
She laid with her head on my lap the entire ride to work, where I stayed for a bit before I got off work.
She was starved to death, I fed her two cans of food and she scarfed it down.
She has been doing much better since I got her home, my wife loves her too.
Shes wagging her tail and not holding it between her legs any more.
Just wanted to share, I hope in the next few days she will liven up some more.

Thanks all.
I hope it stops raining when I get off work so I can take her for a walk.
She was so scared and shaking all over when I got her, but she calmed down a bit after I fed her and started working with her.
Sugar seems pretty smart, my wife had her shaking hands after a few hours last night.
I felt kinda bad for putting her in the little lot over night, I just don't want her to run away or get lost. But its better than where she was, and it has a little house in it for her.
Likely the best $50 I ever spent, and that covered her tags and first shots as well as worm meds and getting her fixed.
At least she was wagging her tail this morning when I left for work.

I went to Arkansas for a funeral back in Oct, he had 3 dogs that lived outside that he fed because he felt bad for them. He said they just showed up out of no where. There was a mom dog, and her 2 puppies about 7-8 months old. The wife and I named the dogs, the black one was Midnight and the blonde one was Casper. Midnight was very friendly and Casper was shy and scared.
I told the wife I want another dog for our dog Diesel who was near 6 months, so we agreed we'd take one of the dogs, we picked Casper. He went on a long drive back to NC. He was scared to do anything at first, but now he is fatter than ever, sleeps either on my futon in the man cave or our bed, and he's loving life. He learned quick, he pissed in the house a few times, was showed it was wrong and now he knows how to sit and shake for treats, he's awesome.
Give it a few days, maybe weeks and your new pup will be loving her new life.

She looks sad because you've got her chained, take the chain off and she'll perk right up.
We had a shelter dog (golden retriever) for a number of years that had a current Cripple Creek tag on him when we got him. (probably CC, Colorado) He was a terrific dog and was evidently used to being in the open in Co., and running because when we took him over to the green belt and let him off the leash, he could have outrun a Mustang. He would go like a rocket ship for about a 1/4 mile and come back the same way. He absolutely could run till his legs fell off. He was a hugger and so am I, so we got along great. Tears me up to think that dogs like that are put to sleep if no one adopts them.

She stays in the lot over night, I check on her before I leave for work and make sure she still has food and water and her bedding in the house is good.
When I come home she gets out on the chain for a walk up the trails around here.
Then I chain her up while I eat dinner, then we go back out and sit with her until dark when I put her back up in the lot.
She is starting to show a bit more affection and returning to a normal dog.
She likes to run, a lot. Its hard to keep up with her sometimes.
The cat doesn't like the dog too much, but they played around a bit last night, it was cute.
