Letter from GSU

This morning I got a letter from Georgia Southern University telling me that they accepted my AP World History exam grade and that I now have 3 semester hours of credit there. It also said that if I pass my AP Lit exam this year with a 5/5 then I will get credit for english 1101 and 1102, so no english my freshman or sophomore year! I'm a junior right now and it feels great to have some college credit. I'm gonna take 4 more AP classes over my junior and senior year so hopefully I can get some good credits. My parents are really happy too because that is more classes we don't have to pay for

Congrats! Stick with it, as Jack said, you'll be better off in the long run. I dropped out of HS when I was 17 and only 3 years later I'm regretting it. Just do you're best and try as hard as you can you'll be successful and happy when you are done.

I graduated from GSU in 2008. What's your major going to be?

Thats pretty cool and all, but why would you be happy about getting to spend less time in college?

Sounds like you're pretty smart and going to college isn't even a question, it's a given. You've got your entire life to work, so why rush through the couple of years that are truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience?

Of course I'm a little biased, I spent 7½ years in college and loved every second of it. Besides, if you're going to an in-state school, the cost won't be too bad.

O I think everyone should have the college experience. I sure wish I would have but I went straight to work after high school because I didn't know what I wanted to do and my parents didn't want to pay for it. If you have the opportunity to go definitely do so and enjoy that part of your life.

I think I'm gonna major in either Engineering or Chemistry. My brother is a junior there now and he is doing engineering and he says he likes it alot.

^ What would you want to do with a Chemistry degree? About all I know of would be teaching high school or something, unless you go on and get a Masters/PhD in Chem.

With engineering you can work in almost any industry in almost any location.

You can combine the two in Chemical Engineering. That's a degree that's hot right now, and has real jobs in real companies. I agree with NCSU regarding Chemistry, though. Other than teaching in High School (maybe), about all it's good for is entry into the Post-Graduate degree program, and there, you'll really need to get a PhD.

Math is the key in Engineering though. You've got to really love it.

My chemistry teacher last year told me that I needed to look into chemistry when I went to college because I did so well in the class, but I haven't really found many jobs that deal with chemistry other than teaching. I did read about chemical engineering the other day on a career website, and it also said that it was a becoming more in demand. I'm almost positive that I'm gonna major in engineering, I'm just not sure what type. My brother started out with nuclear engineering, changed to mechanical, and is now doing civil engineering, so I can try some different types and see what I like.
