Swimming Pool Help!

Hey all,

Need some help here. My parents pool went from crystal clear to a nasty green over the past week. Chemical levels are all good though. Short version of the story is that no one used it last week and the solar cover stayed on the whole week. The filter was run throughout the week but no one "stirred up the water", so to speak. Told my dad to get the cover off ASAP and let the sun and water kind of work together to clear it up. Now, they are supposed to have a party this weekend and the weather is supposed to be great, but they have a green pool!!! Im trying to do some research on getting this turned around for them, so if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

The water got to hot, throw in some algaecide and it will be cleared up in a day

Make sure to use good chemicals, not that cheesey crap you get at walmart... Only thing that their alaecide is good for is washer fluid

Shock it! Probably 2 pounds at least of shock which should burn off before the weekend and the pool should be OK for swimming.

Then, when they have more time, use a phosphate remover in the pool. Algae feeds on dissolved phosphates and if the phosphate level is too high, it takes an extremely high chlorine level to keep the algae down.

Shock it. Mix the shock granules in a bucket before pouring in. Then run the filter for 24 hours. May have to clean the filter, depending on the type. Scrape the sides with a brush if the algae is clinging to the sides.

in addition to the shock and algecide make sure that you check the PH. if the PH is wrong you are wasting the chlorine. also make sure that you check the filter differential pressure very often and clean it. it will clog pretty quick.

Shock --> Flock --> Vac to Waste then get your Ph right.

Shock will kill all the green stuff, let it run for a day or so with the pump full bore. While you are doing this fill the pool up so the weir gate in the skimmer will barely close. Use your broom on the sides and bottom to get it all stirred up.

Flock will cause all the dead green stuff fall to the bottom, turn the pump off for 12-24 hours. Don't do anything to make the water move.

Vac to waste will suck all the dead green stuff out without running it through your filter to clog it up. Keep an eye on your water level you might have to add more water.

Once your done make sure your water level is at the middle of the skimmer.
