Direct TV Install Question
Direct TV Install Question
we are getting direct installed tomorrow morning, those of you that have direct tv did you have to have a land line hooked up to get direct tv. I am getting conflicting stories if you have to or not. We havent had a land line for about 4 years (cell phones). Most of the things i have read is saying you dont have to have it, but wont be able to get updates and pay per view.
Thanks
Thanks
I have Direct TV and it is not hooked up to a land line. I think the only thing it impacts is your ability to automatically order movies -- I believe you have to call them to order pay-per-views without being connected to a telephone line. In all the years I've had Direct TV (almost 10 years) I've never ordered a movie, so I'm not the right person to ask about that.....

. So i decided to go with direct.
I've been extremely pleased with Direct TV and have had no problems with them beyond the occassional temporary outage (usually the result of passing severe thunderstorms).
I am, however, a "one horse show" as far as my selection of TV provider -- whoever offers "NFL Sunday Ticket" will get my business. There is nothing better than sitting around the house on a fall afternoon and having access to every NFL game right from your living room.....

No you don't need a land line for DirecTV. You'll have to call to order any pay per view. I've had it for a few years now and it is much better than Dish. The only time I've a dropped signal is when I had 8" of snow piled on it. Swept off the dish and the signal came back.
I'm sure you wont' have to worry about that.

I dont have a land line hooked up and the only thing that affects is the ability to order pay perveiw off the remote you have to call. Everything else is good updates and all..

Also on the movie thing with Direct, you can order movies from their web site or they also have an app that lets you completely manage your TV...order movies, record shows, etc.
Were you saying no local channels with your cable company or with Direct??? Because you can get any local channels you want with Direct.

Hope you are getting all the HD etc. HD is definitely worth it.
Got the middle package, Choice Xtra 205 channels. Got the hd boxes and dvr
You might want to think about the HD and HD extra package. It adds some nice movie channels that are not part of the regular premiums like Sony, MGM HDNET Movies and some other good channels.
Matter of fact, you can pick whatever channels you want. When I moved from Sacramento to St Louis, I set up my dish, got everything zoned in and working, and guess what...still had Sacramento local channels. Called and changed my "local" channels to local channels.
I've actually done that twice now. I moved from So-Cal to Sacramento and when I got everything fired up in Sacramento, I still had my So-Cal local channels until I updated my account.
