Matter of fact, you can pick whatever channels you want. When I moved from Sacramento to St Louis, I set up my dish, got everything zoned in and working, and guess what...still had Sacramento local channels. Called and changed my "local" channels to local channels.

I've actually done that twice now. I moved from So-Cal to Sacramento and when I got everything fired up in Sacramento, I still had my So-Cal local channels until I updated my account.
Go to direct tv and enter zip code 76904, and see what it tell you, all i get is no locals available.

It should mean you will get the "national" locals.probably west coast stations.

See this page.

That's all our local channels - and as you can see, DTV doesn't carry all of them. This isn't the big city compared to what you are used to. KRC doesn't even HAVE any local channels.

after a couple days of having direct, i think its going to be pretty good. Sure do love the dvr . The installer just hooked up our internet instead of phone line.

If your hooked up to the internet you can watch the video on demand channels. The VOD channels start at 1202 and up.

I don't get locals in HD from Directv. So I got an AM-21 box from directv that you plug into the DVR. Attach antenna to the AM-21 and now I get all my locals in HD plus some other OTA channels that direct doesn't offer. All the OTA channels show up in the guide and I can record them to the DVR. It's also nice when the weather is bad I don't loose the OTA channels due to rain fade.

I hate Direct TV....Thats why I have Dish Netowork. I get free HD channels and alot more channels plus all local channels and even local channels in HD. For about 20 dollars less a month than a comparable Direct TV plan. Also I dont have a land line either....The only thing the land line is for is ordering movies and things. But why Red boxes at every gas station and store....Why would you pay 5.99 for a pay per view movie when you can just go pay 99 cents?
