I just took my CCW class, and while it is true, it does teach that once the subject is no longer a threat.

Consider the following.

The kids came in a store armed with a gun in a attempt to steal and possibly cause harm.
They knew what they where doing, they acquired a gun (illegally) and committed a illegal act.

They deserve exactly what they got, the other kid should be found and locked up and the shooter should be left alone.

He defended his self from harm and his co-workers as well as company property.
I have had guns pointed at me, and fired at me and its not a fun thing.

This is a serious matter, and robbery (armed or otherwise) is a serious crime, maybe the guy was just freaked out? maybe he was still on a rush from the encounter?

I don't really see putting him in jail as fair.

I can empathize here and one would hope that the guy's attorney brought up those issues at trial, assuming he had a competent attorney defending him.

On the other hand, one can argue that if a reasonable person were that freaked out, they would have just gotten out of there after taking down the attacker and then stayed out until the cops arrive. The "what would a reasonable person have done" question comes up over and over again in cases like this.

Believe me, I am not defending the robbers' actions, but in order to help protect the right to defend one's self with handguns, some rules have to be followed on what a reasonable defensive course of action is.
