turning 20 next month, could really use some advice on life
I know what you're going through, OP- I turn 20 in July as much and there have been many nights I sat awake thinking what I'm going to do with my life (my right eye is preventing me from doing what I want). I think these are called early-life crises'.
Just find something to shake off the negative thoughts and keep your mind in the game. Like said earlier, cut the umbilical and get out of town. There are many jobs out there that you don't know about. I'm not welder tech, but can what you're certed to do possibly work in a shipyard or something? I know mechanics as the Boeing assembly line make some BANK putting those planes together. I wanna say like $47/hr.
There has been a thread in the GD a long time ago asking everyones profession. there were quite a few nice responses. Railroad bridge diver, heavy-lift crane operator, paramedics, cops up the ying yang, all making good money too. I will say that out of any forum I can think of, this is probably the best to ask advice, because:
A.) Its 90% blue-collar men over the age of 30 who have experience in most things you can think of
B.) Newer trucks have a hefty price tag and most of these guys must have been doing something right if they can afford it

Simply put by a friend and a 'shrink'.
Find out what you want in life. The hard part is finding out how to afford that life.
Some guys want to fly their private jet to France to have dinner and some guys want to live in a cardboard box and maybe have a hit of booze from time to time.

I'm 20 as it is, and i'll tell ya i wish i had the offers you have right now. I'm stuck working for wal-mart right now, with 2 trucks, and a truck payment on one of them (since i HAD to have the 4x4). And the state says i make too much for any type of aid to get into schooling (not that im set on what i want to do). Take this all as an opportunity to go and see the world if its presented to you. You're young, and have alot of life left in you. And if your girl truly loves you, she will support you and be there waiting, and maybe even with you through all of this. I would drop everything to have that kind of a job right now to get me out of my broken down state.
