Lane merges

Stop not required.

Truck stops in from of me anyway.

Why?

Why oh why can't people learn to read signs and follow directions?

It seems like every other day in the same two spots its the same thing, even with a HUGE yellow sign that says "Lane merges. Stop not required".

Even if nothing is coming I have people stop anyway.

Its like people who can't grasp that if you are at a intersection and its safe to turn right on red, you can turn right on red.

For example intersection like this + you have N and S (up/down) and East/west (left/right).

If west is turning left under green to go south, north can safely turn right to go east under red.

umm, yep, yep, that sounds about right.

you should try driving up here with all the morons. u get half the drivers who go half the speed limit and some ricer in a civic with a tin can on the *** end weaving it and out at double the limit, and then crossing the solid lines just before the concrete barrier to make te exit ramp.

oh, and lets not forget that people up here do NOT stay to the right. they just cruise along in the passing lane just a hair below the limit.

last may i drove from toronto to western kentucky, and man do i love your interstates. people actually stay to the right and use the left lane as a passing lane. it was something ive always heard about but never had the chance to experience. it was euphoria!

I live in Eastern Ky and its rare to have the left lane clear, but on the more major interstate (64 ect) its a law to keep right.
But on US 23 its not and many people just pick a lane and end up holding up traffic.

Also, the other day (about a week ago) I was at a intersection turning left, light goes green and I take off as well as the car next to me.
Then the bike behind me splits us both and almost clips my mirror to pass us both in the center line.

Scared me cause I thought sure he was gonna hit one of us and end up getting hurt/killed.

Yup, not only do you have to obey the rules of the road, you also have to watch up for the idiots who have no fricken clue about the rules of the road, or are just so ignorant they simply do not care!

It's frustrating to say the least, especially in metropolitan areas that are inundated with people that I suspect cannot even read\comprehend ENGLISH!

Ahh, good rant, thanks, I needed that.

It's PERMITTED but not REQUIRED. Rude as hell, but perfectly legal.

Don't necessarily mean to single you out but, how long had you been sitting right beside that trailer truck? You have NO idea how many times I've had people sit right beside my rig for miles figuring they're in their lane and I should be in mine. Drifting over into their lane a little always wakes them up to how dangerous that position is.

Paw Paw, 12 years! That's pushing it for gasoline! In the 7 years I hauled that stuff, I lost 3 good friends and 5 acquaintances. Only one was from his own mistake, all others were from someone in a 4 wheeler doing something stupid. The last guy left infant twin girls. They couldn't separate his ashes from those of the truck! My wife finally got me to quit gas and we moved. Still drive, but it's coal and there's just about no traffic out here. Don't even see an interstate!

hey flagship its ok, yea i understand what your saying, however my dad was a car-haul for over 30 yrs and when he thought me to drive he always told me when passin or comin up on a rig over 6 wheels speed past. i dont like stayin near rigs at all due to size and sway factor i've seen idiots get to close or stay to close to 18 wheel for too long n end up under the rear of the trailer.

Cool! That's the way to do it!

I used to love to watch the (usually women) who sit there right beside you. I'd start to drift over, an inch at a time, in about a mile, I'd be right on the line, then an inch at a time, closer, closer, and they don't even realize you're there! All of a sudden! WoW! Then they'd get on the throttle, eyes wide open, and go home and tell their husband about the crazy, dangerous truck driver!

Worse thing here is left lane drivers driving about 10 under the limit, and those that pull out in front of you and straight to the left lane when going 65 or 70.

They are perfectly in their rights to stop if they feel the need to do so. The stop is not required but it is not prohibited.

After a complete stop and if it is safe to do so. I have nearly hit several idiots that think right on red means they do not have to stop first. They do.

X2 here in Connecticut; we are sandwiched between New York and Massachusetts and get the worst of both states' drivers. There have been so many times I've been running code and roll up on some clown going 10 below the speed limit in the left lane who refuses to move over, that I'm now tempted to give them a gentle nudge and see if that wakes them up (or gets them to hang up the cell phone).
