Tipping a waiter
i am 44, seems like when i was a kid 10% was the number. then 15% was the number and now some seem to think 20% is the number.
i do 15% for good service, I only give 20 if they are outstanding or there as special circumstances.
Seems like the people pushing 20 are ex-waiters.
i also give a $1 or 2 for takeout.
I remember when i was in college i had a friend that was waiting tables at a seafood place. he was very depressed that when he graduated he took a pay cut to take an office job over being a waiter.

I am usually a pretty good tipper...about 20%. However, admittedly I had one time I left a penny. A group of us while in college was in a Pizza Hut when they had the lunch buffet. We were just chatting it up and hanging out. The waitress was a real piece of work and got smart with us because she felt we were there too long or something so we all left pennies at the bottom of our glasses.
I will complain to the manager more often than not if the service is lousy. Usually that nets me a better server that gets a good tip!

i went to lunch with a kid one weekend in high school who was going to pay (owed me money for something) so the bill comes kids a dumbass and had enough money for the bill but only had about 3.50 in change for the tip. well turns out the waiter is a good friend of the school bitch so i walk into english and what do you know, $3.50 comes flying at my head in a plastic baggy.
For those of you who don't tip your server, you should be ashamed of yourself for being such utter cheapskates.
I've seen your type and heard it all before, all of a sudden you guys have a 'philosophy' when it comes to tipping, gimmee a break.
If you don't want to tip, don't eat out. it really is douchbag behaviour not to tip someone who gives you good service.
I don't tip at those places where you pick your food up and take it home. My buddy owns a plce like that and he started putting a jar beside the cash register 2 years ago "Tips for the crew"
When he opens his restuarant he puts in a $5 bill, a few ones, a 2, and a bunch of a change to make it look like other people have tipped.
When I gave him heck and called him greasy, his reply was "buddy, it's free money, at the end of the night theres anywhere between 50 and and 100 extra bucks in that jar, over the course of the year it adds up to a lot"
His attitude was "if the people are so stupid to give me their money, I'm going to take it"
So keep that in mind the next time you see one of those stupid tip jars on some counter.
I over-tip as well.
My minimum tip is $5.
Suppose my wife and I get a coffee and the check is $3
What, I'm going to leave the girl 45 cents? seriously?
She is getting a fiver no matter what.
Sometimes we'll cross the boder and go to Ponderosa in Watertown, and even though it's self-serve, I'll still leave the gril a fiver for clearing the plates and getting drinks etc.
For you dollar tippers, wake up, it's 2011, time to get with the times.

I only order water with my meal so I don't have to pay 15% tip on an overpriced drink.
I also like going to Johnny Carinos where there is all you can eat breadsticks, free refills on italian sodas and half price family platters on Mondays.
After bringing all 8 of my kids I get out with about $45.00 in food. So 20% tip is cheap for all the work the wait staff had to exert.

In JAN-11 it was the other way, where CAD$ was worth more than USD$, the 100 day change, the USD$ is falling against the CAD$ by -0.41%.
If the debt changes, expect it to go the other way, where CAD$ are worth more than USD$.
