Ford Escape for the Wife - Thoughts?

Hey guys, I haven't been around in a while, looks like this place is still hopping.

Either way, I always know where to come when I need an opinion, and most of them are usually pretty valid, ha.

I'm about to buy my wife an Escape, but wanted to see if there was anything to be concerned about. I'm considering an 09 with low mileage, V6, 4wd and all of the options except leather.

My big concern with fuel prices through the roof is gas mileage - anyone have any experience? I remember the sticker on a new one at the dealer making it sound good, but fueleconomy.gov says about 25MPG.

Anything else to think about?

Thanks in advance.

My wife drives an '05 Escape with the 3.0 V6 and it get's around 22-23 mpg's in mixed driving. The newer models have an upgraded six-speed automatic, which I suspect might boost that figure another mile or two. It has been a great little SUV for us.....

I think a 2009 is a good choice, it has the 6 speed transmission in it as opposed to the 4 speeds in the 2008 and earlier model years. Good choice!

I'd say it was a good trade.

If she likes it go for it. They are reliable vehicles as most Fords are. Maybe get a 4 cyl front drive for the better fuel economy.

My wife drives a Mitsubishi Outlander which is the small suv with 160hp 2.4L engine. It has plenty of power from any speed. It was rated 21 city/ 26 highway. The 4cyl Escape is about the same vehicle. I think I saw 28mpg highway with those.
