Getting Rid of a WOODPECKER????
What is the best way to ge rid of a wood pecker? Ive tried shooting it but with it at the house i dont really want to blow the side of the house off.
They actually make a product that is motion-sensitive that broadcasts sounds of birds of prey. A friend of mine had to do this to keep them off of his house in the mountains.
The cheaper route is to install something that will move or reflect light, but it probably won't work 100% of the time.
Edit: This is the model he bought from Sears: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...e=00-6047554-2

That will work but I was thinking more along the lines of a Remington 870 with fine bird shot.
On the serious side though I might call and extermintator because if you eliminate the food source the bird will go else where to find a meal.

Yeah but that will tear up the siding. BB gun or pellet gun will do the trick.
flame thrower or bazooka will work. take care of the bird AND termites in your house all in ONE!!!!!
but really BB gun or a fake owl

I had a peckerwood that was traveling house to house at 5:30 am and pecking on the cold stovepipes.
The screens would be full of bugs every morning cuz they were trying to keep warm.
After my neighbors complained, I greased him with my .22 RWS air rifle.
1 pump, 1,000 fps. Quiet, too.

Woodpeckers are classified as migratory, nongame birds and are protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The red-c0ckaded woodpecker (Picoides borealis) and the ivory-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) are on the Endangered Species list and are thus offered full protection. When warranted, woodpeckers other than the endangered species can be killed but only under a permit issued by the Law Enforcement Division of the US Fish and Wildlife Service upon recommendation of USDA-APHIS-Animal Damage Control personnel. Generally, there must be a good case to justify issuance of a permit.
Woodpeckers are commonly protected under state laws, and in those instances a state permit may be required for measures that involve lethal control or nest destruction. Other methods of reducing woodpecker damage do not infringe upon their legal protection status. Threatened or endangered species, however, cannot be harassed.
