Stargate (Questions)
Yea, I hardly watch any TV. Watching series 1 thru 10 back to back uninterrupted was pretty cool. Took 2 or 3 weeks lol. I agree, it's got to best television series I've seen. I'll do what you suggest next 08, thanks.
Okay! You're just in luck: I'm a huge Stargate nerd.
Way back in the day, millions of years ago, the Ancients were pretty much the most advanced race in the galaxy. They got in a big fight amongst themselves about whether they should make lesser races worship them or if they should help them. The Ori wanted to be worshiped, the Ancients didn't. So, the Ori drove the Ancients out of their home galaxy and they came here. They invented stargates and seeded them around the galaxy. They build a ship, the Destiny, to seed stargates throughout the universe and promptly forgot about it.
Eventually a plague ravaged the galaxy and the Ancients moved to the Pegasus galaxy. where they seeded life again. Things were good until the Wraith evolved and started killing all the Ancients. They retreated back to the Milky Way, where they settled in amongst the newly evolving races. They formed an alliance with three other powerful races against a young upstart, the Goa'uld, that were wreaking havoc around the galaxy. The Ancients eventually died out.
This allowed the Goa'uld to slowly take control of most of the galaxy, as the Asgard (part of the alliance) were in their own galaxy and didn't care too much (with the exception of a few protected worlds). The other two races in the alliance were pretty peaceful and avoided confrontation.
Fast forward to the Stargate movie. One Goa'uld system lord controls the rest of them, and the galaxy: Ra. He's killed by a team from Earth. This creates a power vacuum and the rest of the system lords fight it out. Apophis is in the lead for most of the first part of SG-1.
Apophis is eventually defeated a few times. A new system lord comes back, Anubis. He tricked an Ancient into helping him ascend and when they realized what had happened, tried to send him back but only went halfway. Result is a really really bad guy that's really powerful. But, just like everyone else, SG-1 defeats him. The Ancient that helped him ascend is now locked in eternal battle with him, ensuring that he can never go back to corporeal form and cause havoc.
Throughout all this, the Asgard and eventually SG-1 have troubles with the Replicators, a race of little robots that copy themselves and try to destroy everything living. Eventually they end up being neutralized in the Milky Way by SG-1 and the new Goa'uld big system lord, Baal.
And while all THAT is happening, Earth sends a crew to the Pegasus galaxy and they live on the old Ancient's city Atlantis. They deal with the Wraith the whole run of the show and never actually defeat them. They also have dealings with a new race of Replicators that were created by the Ancients. Hilarity ensues.
So, after SG-1 defeats the Goa'uld (mostly) and the Replicators, the Ancient's old enemy the Ori start making their way into the Milky Way and try to take over. They really want to kill all the Ancients that were living there but need to convert all the inhabitants of the Milky Way to worship them so they can become more powerful. Much hardship ensues, but eventually they are destroyed (Ark of Truth).
Then, SG-1 manages to track down and kill the last Goa'uld system lord, Baal (Continuum).
After this, there's a power vacuum in the galaxy and many of the Goa'ulds former human subjects take over and create the Lucian Alliance. Earth finally figures out how to connect a stargate with the Destiny, at the other end of the universe. Lucian Alliance attacks and the totally wrong people end up getting sent to the ship.
These people bumble around and try to survive, and eventually figure out the mission Destiny was sent on millions of years ago (and yeah, the ship still works after all that time). Just when they start figuring out how to work the ship, they cancelled the show.
And that, my friends, is a very brief overview of the Stargate franchise.

chrmar: Very good summary of the entire history of the show.
It's too bad that Universe got cancelled just when it was getting good. It is nice that they ended it in a way that left it kind of open and allowed you to use your imagination to finish the story. They could also come back eventually if they wanted to finish the story but doubtful it would happen.
Then again, the SciFi channel is now the SyFy channel. It's turning more and more into the Ghost Hunters Wrestling channel. It's quite sad that people find these kinds of shows more interesting than shows that cause you to think.
I don't understand how Ghost Hunters is so popular. They have yet to prove ghosts and it's been several years. All they do is see a shadow and go "OMG OMG IT'S A GHOST" right before a commercial. Then they come back and say "Oh, it was just our camera guy walking past a light. Nevermind."
Also Wrestling on a SciFi channel?
WTF. Ok, I get that it's Fiction, but where's the science part?
Ok, sorry for that rant. Carry on with talking about the awesome shows.

Watching the FarScape episodes, think I'm at season 3. It's very good, didn't care for it at first, but wanted to see more of Claudia Black, so I kept 1/2 an eye on it, -multi-tasking. It's as good as Stargate IMO. It can get hilarious. If you watch it and make it thru season one, you won't regret it. It gets really good.
I tried that one, I think (?) Wasn't that a spin off from another ?
