That is crazy . I see this all the time though, because I work at a car dealership. I definitely do not work in sales or service so I dont have to lie through my teeth like they do. Unfortunately, any shop will try to take advantage of you with things like that, and another thing is that you are probably paying $80/hr+ for labor when it comes to shops like that. That doesnt include their part cost, import costs, or taxes.. you get the picture. 3 words. Haynes repair manual. Those books have a complete break down of these trucks, and if you can read then you do just about everything in those books. They will tell you how to diagnose and fix anything that can go wrong with them.

wow thats nuts and that is why i fix my truck my self.

had my truck taken to ford for the rear axle they did that and did a 112 point check and deemed my truck unsafe to drive and they wanted 1,600 bucks to fix it all... 300 dollars in parts then installed by me everything on there list is done.

The hoses are good but should be replaced because there ford hoses?? that makes no scene if it aint broke dont fix it.

I took my truck into the local tire place to get my 10,000 mile rotation and balance so they did there thing and said the truck is ready and said since it has 118,000 miles it needs some maintance work. So i told him lets hear it.

He told me i needed all 4 brake pads and rotors and that these fords only last 40,000 miles before you have to change them all again (BS). So he quoted me $909.03. I thought to my self well the truck has never needed anything so i will get it done.

Then he tells me that the upper and lower hoses needs to be replace just because they are the factory hoses. He told me they checked them and all is good but they still need to be done. Got quoted $310.96 to replace both upper and lower radiatior hoses .

After i got that estimate he informed me that i also need a idler arm and caster and camber kit and that came to $400.00.

Why do people charge such a rediculous amount to service a vehicle??? Especially in this economy how many people do yal think would have just said ok do the work?

I know my truck is not in near the shape this guy was making it sound. I got my brakes checked at a very reputible shop about 1000 miles ago and told me everything looked fine. As far as the Radiator hoses what does age have to do with anything if they were checked and couldnt find anything wrong with them?

I do know that i need the idler arm i think thats about the only thing the guy was honest about.

Sorry if this dont make since but it pisses me off when people try to jerk me around and i wonder how many people actually think they are telling the truth and pay the ungodly amount these places want
Brakes? Yes, 40k for the front mixed city/hwy. Rears, 75k. Price seemed to be a bit high, to do my fronts, pads and rotors maybe $250 in parts, rears about the same. Total time with distractions 3hrs I'd say.

Hoses? BBBBB SSSSSSSSSSS! If they aren't leaking, cracked or bulging spots on them, leave them, they aren't cheap especially the bottom. My 2000 still has the originals and 240k km's. The coolant to be flushed would have been a yes. Only, with a new t-stat.

I don't know if they're any different than anyone else, but a wise consumer or avid DIY'er knows better. The economy is brittle for everyone remember, more work the merrier!

not saying i steal people's money at work, but you should see some of the quotes i give to my customers in the high end market... And most of them dont blink at 2gs

you can easily do the work yourself, most of that stuff has writeups written for the work involved.

yeah pat. most of the stuff mention is not that hard to do. brakes front and rear if its disc all around is 5 lug nuts and 2 cailper bolts and bam the rotor comes off and the pads are out.

on my truck the front rotors have the wheel bearing in them takes a lil longer but still not bad at all.

yah we have duralast pads on Sarah's blazer and we do pads usually once a year, but they are really soft pads so they dont chew up the rotors too bad, we did 3 or 4 sets of pads before the rotors were below specs

How are you sure you even NEED new brakes?????? If you had them checked by a reputable shop 1000 miles ago and they were fine, why would they not still be fine?

Before you buy ANYTHING, take it back to that shop and get a full multi-point inspection done on the whole truck!
