Got a question with some damage on my Lincoln

Hey guys a while back i purchased this 96 lincoln towncar in very good shape. Well today i had it at the shop and this guy walks in and ask if we would trade a Bowflex Exercise machine for a computer. Looked at the bowflex and said sure ( its worth more than the computer he wanted).

So he backed his trailer up behind the lincoln and about 5 mins later hear a big bang outside. I didnt think anything of it until he came in and said just wanted to tell you the bowflex fell on the trunk of the car. He told me it wasnt that bad and walked out side and there is a pretty good dent on top of the trunk. When i saw it my temper got the best of me and **** hit the fan. Called the cops and they told me they couldnt do a accident report cause its on private property.

So i was just told by the cop to contact his insurance company. My question is when the adjuster comes out to look at the damage should i have a few estimates with me? Or should i just let him estimate the damage and wait for a check?

Another question is since his vehicle actually didnt cause the damage will his auto ins pay for this???

Definitely get your own estimates. The estimators like to use the cheapest shop in the area for their claims.

Not if you have a good insurance company.

Yep, you may need to claim that, just call and explain what happened. Honestly I'd be telling your customer to hit some junk yards and paint shops if his insurance doesn't cover it.

So the Bowflex was on his trailer connected to his truck? I'm trying to figure it out...

Yes the bowflex was on the trailer and he backed the trailer up and started unloading the bowflex and i guess dropped it taking it off the trailer. My insurance wont do anything cause i carry liablilty on the car.

OK.

I don't see how his insurance won't cover it since it came off his trailer and hit your car. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. And if that's the case you should get a few estimates.

I find it hard to believe he tried to pass it off as "Not that bad" !!!!!!!

Betcha your comprehensive will cover it and I'd collect the deductible $ from that A$$-Hat, one way or the other. That's just me, tho.

It would seem to be the same as a tree branch falling on your car on private property. I have $100 deductible and he'd be givin it up.

You need to find out if he has homeowners insurance or renters insurance. They are the ones that would be on the hook for that. If the item fell off of his truck in motion and hit your car on the road, that would be a different matter but he was moving something from point A to point B. It looks like he was bringing the item in and dropped it. Not his car insurance's issue.

Your insurance would cover it if you had comprehensive coverage but you would have to pay the deductible. It wouldn't raise your rates.

I would work something out with this guy. A deck lid for that shouldn't be that hard to find in the bone yard with that color. Maybe a couple hundred I would think at most.

his insurance should cover it and looking at where it is in that spot it is probably gonna need to be replaced and they will probably write for a recycled (used) part

Yea he almost got his a$$ kicked. He was running his mouth saying the car wasnt worth the price to repair the trunk. blah blah blah. Then when i reached for the phone to call the cops he told me i was trying to scam him for money . I looked at his 05 dodge and i said my 96 lincoln looks 10 times better than that damn dodge. He said well its a truck its meant to have dents. The insurance said the adjuster will be calling me and go from there. He wrote on the "crash report" that bowflex fell and hit car. So guess i will find out when the adjuster comes out...

Would yall go for it and get if fixed or just say its a 15 year old car and live with it? I dont think im wrong for getting it fixed. Some people are different though The car is in such good shape is the only reason i want to get it fixed.

Fix it. It's a nice car and you were just a victim of bad luck.

you have every right to file the claim, get your money, and choose not to repair it.

IMO if you plan on selling it soon, get it fixed. If you're gonna drive it until the wheels fall off, no biggie just pocket the cash.

^x2 At least get something out of the deal because you know you are gonna notice that dent every time you see the car, if you don't get it fixed it will bother you...I had this happen and tried to let it go but I just couldn't stand it every time i seen the dent so I had the person pay to fix it....
