Random Question- need help

Alright I have always to put an extra inch on my truck but can't because my garage door is only 7ft tall. My shed garage door is also 7ft tall. My truck is actually always parked outside, which I never have liked because my parents cars are in the actual garage. Currently my truck fits in there but just barely. If I go any higher I know it wont fit and I wont have a place to work on it at all except outside, which doesn't really work in the winter. My question is, is there any way to add a panel on the bottom of my shed garage door and some how put extenders for the track on the bottom? The shed is a car-port enclosed with tin. I would have to cut the top of the shed where it meets the garage door but thats not that big of problem. Pretty much, is there any way to make it taller without forking out the money to buy an all new garage door?

Garage doors come in different heights like 8', 9' 10' 12' that I am aware of. You'd probably have to change the header height if it's a load bearing wall and buy a completely new door. I've never seen a kit to raise the door an additional foot.

just buy an air compressor, and run the tires down to about 10psi, drive in, and air them back up when you leave the garage, problem solved!

If you can get the same brand door panel you should be able to do it. But you might have to replace the whole track and spring, and may have problems with the opener if so equipt.

If you know the manufacturer, call them.

Yep and I could also install a hydraulic system under the shed and just pick the whole thing up and then just drive right in, that could work too I suppose....

Throw a few jack stands underneath the shed. Easy enough!

I was trying to offer a serious suggestion, you can get a cheap compressor for 50-100 bucks and solve your problem

Having just installed a new garage door after an old wood one broke I can enlighten you.

Yes you can add a panel to the bottom of the garage door to extend the height of the door.

You will need to replace the track or extend it on the ceiling side so that the door can fully open.

You will also need to extend the garage door opener track so the garage door can fully open. Make sure the motor you have for the garage door has the strength to move the door.

The panels just snap into place with rollers on the side for most of the newer doors. The track extension will be about $50-100, the garage door opener track extension is about $25 and the door panel is going to run you around $200 probably.

As long as the garage door HOLE in your house is big enough, you can add the needed space. If you need to make the hole bigger to fit the larger door then you get into structural issues which may not be worth the price.

My garage door is an 8' door however my garage door only retracts to 7'. If I wanted to lift my truck I could do so but would need to get an extension for my garage door opener track to allow the door to pull open the full 8'.

Yep, thats exactly what I'm looking for ^^. So its possible, I just need to buy the extra panel and track extention from the company and make the hole bigger. I have to open it manually so I don't have to worry about the garage opener being big enough.

Be careful with the torsion spring. you will have to re set it to allow for the weight of the extra panel. Be very careful when you unwind it ( a must to work on the door).

The simplest solution is not to lift yr truck up any higher!! If your parents cars are in there most of the time it pretty academic anyway!! How will they like there car/s parked outside in the winter? If its there house, how will they feel about u messing with the garage anyway? Leave yr truck alone until you can get your own place with a garage that u can adapt!
