I myself would file a police report. Sounds bad, but it claims what happened in writing in case the father wants to be a jackass about it later. Don't wait too long, you have a week or 2 to do it, otherwise it's null and void. It does/costs nothing to do, but it holds merit if he decides to go south on you. That said, he's dumb to go through insurance 1) and secondly, pocketing the money may bring bad karma to you and your friend. Basically looks like his dad handed you money to blow on whatever not realizing it'll bite you too come resale time. Still, it'll give the wrong impression. Even fixing the problem areas not worrying about matching/ blending should help incredibly.

Bottom line, he did it, he fixes it to your satisfaction.

I've never had a problem out of Geico, either by having them (on the motorcycles and the gf has them for her car) or by using them (guy hit me one night). So they are pretty good
