Keyless entry security?

Today I was in my Ford Escort with engine running about ready to pull out of a parking space at a local supermarket when something very odd happen. About 20% of all the cars in the very full parking lot started to flash headlights and honk! I looked around and wondered what is going on with so many cars horns going all at the same time. Then my car started to honk it's horn. I have an aftermarket keyless entry system that has a panic button on the key fob, so I used it to turn off the honking.

Did I just get hacked?

Research on the net turned up this: Scientists from Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) in Germany have revealed a major flaw in vehicle keyless entry systems by demonstrating a new device that can ‘learn and record’ radio codes used to lock and unlock car doors. In the same way that a universal remote control can mimic commands from your TV and DVD controller, the new device could enable thieves to access buildings and cars after remote eavesdropping from a distance of up to 100 meters. http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1...curity-systems
