Greedy people in a "bad" economy
I guess who you would contact first would be the utility supplier, - not sure. They may be able to point you in the right direction. Shoot, right on the gas bill here in Michigan, it says, - If you have a problem affording your gas bill, it gives you a number to call.
Yea man, - Don't Freeze.
Yea man, - Don't Freeze.
Usually the people you would call is LIHEAP. I have a lot of students that seek energy assistance through them. I'm not sure how they handle it with heating oil. It's not the same as natural gas or electric like we're used to dealing with here in the mid-west. I'm sure the same principle applies though. You usually have to supply them with income information and such and they can help. It is funding that comes from the state as well as the donations on most power bills. The criteria is usually 2x the federal poverty level. They're not very quick to pitch in though.
In all seriousness, don't freeze man. Much like Buckdropper said, if you need help, I'm there for you too. We've all been there before and needed some help and what comes around goes around.

I could make a snide political comment about our state, but that would just start another rant and **** a few people off on here. Thank you for your offer as well K-Mac, it is much appreciated! The wife and I will be alright and we'll get through this, she's headed down to see her kids for the weekend and will be staying in a nice warm condo, and as for me I'm kinda hairy anyway so me the dog and cats will be relying on our winter coats. Wow, anyone ever try to type with heavy gloves on? Just kidding, trying to keep a sense of humor about it. Look, I didn't mention the whole heat thing to get sympathy, was just sighting an example of how bad it can get for some of us, and to me, your generous offers are just absolutely amazing and much appreciated, it's nice to know that there are kind hearted folks like you guys out there. I started this thread simply to bring to light the fact that in this crappy economy, there are people who are better off than others (for whatever reason) that are willing to take advantage of others who are not. I say this because others who do what I do and are in a better position, could have passed on this job. I could not, I had to take it and had to price it to get it. One thing that I did not mention in the original post is, these folks talked me down a little on my original price which is pretty common place in this trade when dealing with homeowners, I know I would do the same as we all want more bang for the buck. It wasn't enough to hurt me, if it was I would have had to pass on it. As stated before, I blame myself for letting it get to this point and that's because I was a nice guy, just wanting to make them happy with my work. Well no more Mr. nice guy, the gloves are coming off. No, wait a minute... I better keep them on, it's too damn cold in here!!

Holy crap!! That's the guys wife, where did you her picture, do you know them?

Not to get off subject here, but you really had me going in your thread OG, that first pic looked like someone really tore into your truck!
I and a lot of contractors out there don't like customers supplying their own materials as a lot of them don't know what they're buying. Some times they purchase inferior products or don't get enough of everything or end up with things missing in their purchases and that almost always leads to problems and delays in completing the job and therefore collecting on the work. Not to mention it becomes harder to warranty the work. It just so happens that this was the case on this job, and dummy me gave in. I offered to work with them to help them out with their buying decisions to make sure they got all the right stuff and they declined that help. Again I blame myself for that and as stated before, lesson learned. I am not saying that about you tradosaurus, so please don't take it that way.
That's cool. That's normally how I do it. I was recommended to these people by a satisfied customer as well.
Never ceases to amaze me. I work at a collision repair facility. People are so worried about the insurance company or the body shop "screwing" them over. If you gave them half a chance to have the insurance pay for something that wasnt related to the claim they will do it in a second. They dont want to be screwed over but as soon as the shoe is on the other foot they will screw over the insurance to their benefit.
I have a friend that is a contractor and he is always telling me about people that dont pay the final amount left on the bill. They always say something wasnt exactly right or some other absurd excuse that they feel they shouldnt have to pay the balance. If you dont complete the job or do poor work then the people may have a point. they want the work done right before you are paid in full. On the other hand, if you complete the work up to industry standards they you deserve to be paid.
Good thing about my line of work is i dont have to release your vehicle until the bill is paid in full

Did it ever occur to you it is because they have been screwed before?
Oh I know that. They kind of see it as evening the score if you will. However, there are a few select people that go through everyday trying to screw someone as that is just who they are. Trying to get something for nothing!
Hunh? What I was saying is many people are concerned about getting screwed by people because people have screwed them before. This is just caution based on experience. I said nothing about wanting to get even. However, you are right about people who screw people just because that is the kind of people they are.
