New Member looking and have some questions
Well I've decided to make the switch from my 06 Honda Civic to the F150.
Little bit of info on the scenario. My wife and I bought the civic and her accord (also an 06) because of financial reasons I don't wanna get into. Well now our finances have changed a little bit. I have the civic but I've also got a 1994 F350 crew cab with the big engine in it. Needless to say that's a freaking gas HAWG!! Anyway, I don't use it all the time and the cost to drive it when I do use it isn't worth it. So I'm looking to use both of them to get into a new F150.
I have a guy that I've done all my past dealings with who still works at the Ford dealer here in town. He's given me some things to look at and I've done some looking and choosing and Im actually getting ready to go out and look at them in person.
I'm also kind of heavy into audio and building systems so that's actually a big deal for me in buying one. I don't really care about 4wd vs 2wd. I like a lifted truck but at the same token I have a couple of young daughters (4 and 6) and getting them in the truck would be easier with a lower one.
I like the thought of leather seats, but I understand that I can get those changed down the line from the cloth ones if I really want to.
I prefer the bucket front seats, with the center console vs the center bridge seat. I've got a sub box in mind for the center console anyway.
My wife previously had an expedition el and we had the center console shifter in it. WE LOVED IT AND I STILL DO!! I would love to have that again and I'm seeing that in a couple of the trucks I'm going to look at, but they're both Lariats.
So here are my questions after reading all that:
1) Is it worth the money to get the Lariat version (they're both white and I'm not sure I want white) with the center console shifter, leather seats, bucket fronts, etc.?
2) Are things like the nicer gauge cluster in the dash changeable for he other versions which only have the black or dark clusters?
3) What is everyone's preference on colors, with what I'm about to look at? Black, White, Dark Gray, Silver, Platinum(I think this and silver are pretty much the same just different dealers calling it different names).
The only one I think I really wanted is Black (it's the only black I'm finding in the dealers I'm working with), but it has 81k miles on it and it's an 08. But it has everything in it that I wanted. I think that's alot of miles for only being 2 years old. What does everyone else think? However it's an FX4 style, 4 door, lifted with Black XD Wheels on it with big tires (don't have the specs on them), and really it's tricked out already. The price on that one is $29,900.00. Seems kind of high for an 08 with that many miles on it.
I'm to try keep month payments down, I need my payment around 350.00 monthly, and I think that with the help of my friend I can get there, but, I'm looking in between the 18k an the 27k range. The upper one's are the nicer Lariats, the lifted truck, etc. I can get a lower model truck and just do a bunch of upgrades myself as well.
SO I'm very curious about everyone elses opinions and thoughts on a direction in which I should go.
Thanks everyone for reading! I have a couple days yet before I'm going to make a decision. SO I'd love to hear all y our thoughts before then!

1.) By new, do you mean brand new? 09-11 trucks?
2.) Where do you live? If you dont see yourself using 4WD, get 2WD. No point in carrying around all that weight for no reason.
I'm not sure if anyone has swapped clusters in the new trucks yet (if that is what you are referring to). I know in the older truck you have to take it to a dealer and let them reflash your memory in the cluster. This can be done in an hour and usually no more than $150 for a diagnostic fee.
I prefer white, but I'm biased
Yes, that 08 is wayy too high and you do not want a vehicle that has been modded. Those big tires means the transmission has been strained and if the guy was that much into it, you can bet he's been ******* it too.

Thanks for all that. I was talking newer like 06, 07, 08 +. I don't think I can afford a new one like 10, or 11. But here's the latest.
I did go out and look this morning and while I was out at the dealer down the street from me, I saw this truck that I'm trying to get now. This is my first choice and hopefully will be the one I get.

This is an 08 Lariat Screw 4wd. Couldn't tell if it was the FX4 or not, I don't think it is, but not sure. Dark Blue with gold undertone, as you can see by the picture. I took it with my crackberry so it's not the greatest picture. It has black leather interior, woodgrain panels (which will end up being carbon fiber anyway so it's whatever), and it has the 20 seat in the middle front. Also only has 13,505 miles on it.
It's got brand new ProComp tires and from not being a truck guy for a while or even ever an F150 owner, I can't tell if those wheels are after market or stocks. But whatever I like the way they look on the truck. Also looks tall like it might be lifted, maybe 2 or 4 inches, but could just be leveled as well. But it stands very nice right now. Looks way better in person!
It's veeeerrrrry clean inside and out. No dents, scratches, scuffs or anything. Not the greatest wash job by the dealership, but the exterior is beautiful as well as the inside. Looks and smells brand new still!
I wanted to buckets and center console with the shifter on the console as I said before, but the more I thought about it, the more I decided it wasn't that big a deal cause I'm building a console box anyway soon after I get the truck, so it's not going to matter one way or another. I'll end up keeping the armrest fold up, but the rest of the center will house subs. (I have two hertz 12" HX300D subs now in my possession but if those won't work and I can't fit them in, then I'll go with two or three 10's.)
When I walked on the lot this morning with my printouts in hand this one stood out to me. The sun shined on it the right way, and it had that singing in the background saying "come get me!"
So that's where I'm at now. I had to get my daughters home, they were at the dealership far too long and my wife is at work so no way I could stay there any longer. So they're running numbers and stuff now, and working on my truck and civic trade ins and hopefully we'll get it done soon.
Now onto the Audio part of this. For you audio guys out there, it has the tweeter in the door above the handle close to the dash, and obviously the mid bass lower in the door. Where the tweeter is, can a 3" midrange be put in there, is there room? I have a three way set of Hertz (ML1600 mid bass, HL70 mid range, and ML280s tweeters) to put in. I'd love the mid bass where it is in the stock location, obviously, but would like the mid range in that tweeter location, and then I'm thinking some tweeter pods in the a pillars. Anyone have any input on the placements. Can that midrange go in there? Really it's a matter of room, and will it fit?
Thanks all! I'm very excited about this. Hope it all works out.

Yea that's what I figured. I forgot to look at the brand when I was there. Pro Comp stood out on the tires. What about the height? Do you think it's lifted? Whatever it is it'll have to wait till monday. They were running stuff and the banks closed so nothing now.
Might be. Whatever it is I love the way it looks. DOn't think I'd lift it or anything! It's sitting so nice right now. Monday is surely a long way away!

first of all, that is a lariat. FX4 is a different trim level (typically can tell by decals on the rear near the tail lights and other badging. Also, the wheel well flares are painted on the lariat and a gray, textured coating on the fx4 (another way to tell).
That truck looks like a 4x4. Combine that with having a V8 and those big *** tires, you're not going to do very well in the gas mileage department low to mid teens most likely.
If that truck has the 5.4L, make sure it has the updated headers. Also, not sure if the cam phaser issue was common on the 08's but if the truck sounds like a diesel after running for 20 or 30 minutes, steer clear.
Otherwise, looks like a nice, clean truck.

OK thanks for the info. I'll look into all that. I wasn't sure on the Lariat vs FX4, since I've seen on here specifically that people remove that sticker off the back. So with this being an altered/after market vehicle, that was a possibility. So if it's Lariat it's not FX4 and vice versa?
I would have run far away when i seen the Spanish sign crap all over the place.
I called information today (411) and it said "for english press 1" WTF are you kidding me here....
