The worst part about it, im only 18.

What do you think? what do i do? my father passed at a very young age of a heart attack. I feel fine though, work a lot though. Dealt with a lot of stress in the past. not so much now. just a lot of work, 50hrs a week minimum and i still am in high school.

what do i do?
The ideal reading used to be 120 over 80 and the pulse from 60 to 80. Your resting heart rate of 94 is higher then the 90 that's considered borderline hypertension. Cut back on salt, sugar, and eat healthy and exercise rather then going on medication. A lot of people are their own worst enenmy when it comes to health problems. Keep us updated on your condition.

Call your health care provider directly. They probably have an 800- phone number on the back of your card. As stated previously, 'wellness checks' are often 100% covered or co-pay only.

Those do it yourself cuff things can be inaccurate if your arm is large and the cuff is medium size. You should have a professional check it.

Since you have a family history, please see a Dr. High blood pressure is often known as a silent killer, because you may feel fine all the way up until a stroke or heart attack.

FWIW, my Dr. says in moderation some coffee is OK. Cut back on the salt and foods with salt hidden in them. Try to exercise more. If you are overweight, losing weight will be at the top of what your Dr. recommends.

If your Dr. finds you are not too high on the blood pressure, he will probably recommend diet and exercise changes before he puts you on medication.

Holy begeezus -- with blood pressure like that at your age, you may want to refrain from doing the "wild thing" with your girlfriend! No sense scarring the poor young girl for life by keeling over on her while you're in the throes of passion.....

Since you're still in high school shouldn't you still be covered under your parents?

Sweet tea? Get off that crap. If you want to drink tea, learn to tolerate it unsweetened or use a small amount of artificial sweetener. Same with coffee - your first cup can be regular, but switch to decaf during the rest of the day - and same thing goes for sweetening.

Go hit the local Rub & Tug and ask Gramma for a happy ending...........That'll make your blood pressure drop.

Was it one of those automatic machines?

Those things are useless. It told me my pressure was something like 245/150 once. I usually run high, but I have a family history of hypertension.

What you should do is just go to a doctor and get them to check it manually. It's the most accurate way. Since you have a family cardiac history (your father) this is even MORE reason to go get checked out.

Get this taken care of early, before it causes a lot more issues down the road.

most insurance plans cover routine checkups. schedule one, go and if your BP is high, they will tell you waht you need to do.

I am a "big guy", but not fat. I weigh 180, 6'1", pretty strong build though. idk.

And yea i am going to start dieting. i really dont have time to exercise, other then push ups and situps etc. but anyways, just got off of an 11hr shift at publix. im beat. gonna go wash up and take a good long nap.

But it has me kinda down because, well, i feel fine. Got into a fist fight a week or so ago, after the fight, i felt like i was about to explode, i figured it was adrenaline, not knowing that i was about to stroke out lol. but like i said, idk, just gonna sleep good tonight, hopefully sleep in some tomorrow. I need to take care of this.

lack of sleep and stress are the two leading causes of HBP. Weight and diet are also factors. Heredity is another. I would suggest making a much more concerted effort to regulate your sleep schedule and work on eating a bit healthier. and why in the hell were you in a fist fight?

also 6'1" / 180 is actually a pretty ideal bmi. Based on what you have described, stress and sleep deprivation are your main culprits here. someone your age shouldn't be stressing so much and should have no REAL reasons to lose sleep at night.

This is pretty much what I was going to say.

When I was 18, I had High Blood Pressure, granted I was 6'1 320 with 14% body fat. However my resting heart rate was never that high. With it being in your family, you will always have high blood pressure but it's time to start fighting it now.

Salt-STAY AWAY from salts. It can create a ton of problems, not to mention you are more prone to kidney stones with HBP and trust me, you don't want those. Worst pain I've ever felt.

Caffeine-I hate to say it but leave it alone. I had to cut out caffeine and my body hated me for about 2 months but after that I was good. Caffeine free diet Dr. Pepper is a good replacement.

Stress- Here is one of your biggest enemies with HBP. Find a relaxing hobby, find time to work out, whatever it takes. Sex, is actually good for you, so that's an option.

It's going to take a lifestyle change, and hopefully you catch it early enough you don't have to be on medication at such a young age.

I've been there. At 18, HBP, kidney stones, failing kidneys, insomnia etc... Stress, diet, hereditary, and workout supplements were my culprit. I fixed everything I could control but the stress and I'm much healthier now at 26.

I make sure if i have a day to sleep in i do.

however regulating my sleep is damn near impossible. 3 days a week i get off at 11or so and 2 days during the week i get off at 5:30. the weekends i usually dont get off untill around midnight or so. However my eating habits i cant say anything about. its just became, well, just that, a habit. So i will work my damnedest towards that.

Ready to hear the fun part? I drove over to mcdonalds with a friend one night after we got off from work. its was 12:30am or so. i parked my truck and got out, walked over to the door to go in. it was locked, duh the inside closes. the entire way back to my truck some guy was running his mouth saying we were all kinds of things. well im pretty short tempered, my buddy is bigger then i am and has a worst temper. The dude running his mouth was with his gf. So like the bigger man i decided to leave. about a mile down the road guess who is screaming at me to pull over? so i did. i pulled over, he came up to passenger window and started swinging in. he backed up to the bed of my truck, fist up, my buddy gets out, i was already out, he didnt see me coming. i tackled him into a wall of a building we were next to. i had him held with his arms down, just squeezing the hell out of him, i made him a human punching bag. after about ten nasty blows i pushed him away. HE CAME BACK. i watched his first punch and missed it, grabbed his other arm and eventually the one he through at me. buddy starts choking him, his face was then occupied by my fist until the ground was occupied by his body. We came to the conclusion he was on Crank, he had a bony face, dark eyes(before and after lol), skinny muscular build, and did not want to go to sleep.

Whats sad, his gf was cute.

Stress, i hate it. i would say my family life is what stresses me out the most. My father passed away 11yrs ago of a heart attack. My mom and i hate each other, i have been kicked out a dozen or so times. its sad. sometimes its nice that i work so much and am never home. but it gets old ya know. but anyway, im gonna go get my gf, she makes me hapy.

He's right those automatic machines are useless! You could go to a pharmacy they will check it with a manual stethescope and b/p cuff. My mom didn't listen, I told her several times her b/p was too high. She had a stroke, still has issues from that and it's been 8 years. Seriously, this is one thing you don't want to ignore. You want to keep your man parts working don't you?
