What a mess

Must have happened Friday and I didn't notice it until yesterday as I had not been back to the truck since I parked it Friday night.

I did see a set of these spray trucks parked along the main state road right before the turn I took which must have been the one sprayed but they were apparently leaving out and were no longer own the side road. The road had no markings at all. I have revisited the road today and can see where several others had passed through paint too.

Since they had removed all signs and were sitting off site and about to move on to another I have to assume they thought the paint was dry. And I would have to assume that something was wrong with it and it didn't dry in the time they thought it would.

But I am trying to find out from the County, who would have been the contractor on that road on Friday and we go from there.

Here are some shots of the mess. Just in case, suggest some chemicals for removal. Nothing is going to be easy... Its dry on there but it involves painted surfaces as well as Black Plastic ones.

Same thing happend to my old truck. No signs anywhere and no signs of anyone working on the road. Drove through it and paint all along the bottom of the truck.

Man that sucks. There is another member here, I can't remember his name but he drives a lifted black screw, had a thread about this in the detailing section.

On the paint, give it a spray of WD40 and let it sit over night. Spray again the next day and it probably will wipe off. The asphalt paints used by most states call for a Xylene based paint. The paint will generally dry in less than a minute. Xylene is VERY hot, meaning it dissolves and drys much, much faster than alcohol. The paint on yer truck is a caked dry film and should come off fairly easy.

Clay bar for the paint on the body and bumper. No joke.

My dad did the same thing in his old car and nothing would get it off including paint thinner but then for the hell of it I tried a clay bar and it took it off.

Well this is not coming off easy from the test spot I did. It is fairly obvious to me they screwed up the mix and the paint didn't dry fast. It spattered as if it was blown on there. It did however dry over the weekend. I think the painted surfaces and smooth ones will be no big deal. its going to be the plastics that will be a problem.

I will go get an estimate tomorrow though. And try and locate the company did the spraying and see if we can settle something nicely.

You know what works on that. Bug & Tar Remover. The WD40 before hand would save time definitely, but follow up with that Bug and Tar Remover. After removing WD40 completely, goop some of that on there. You won't hurt the clear coat what so ever. I believe Turtle Wax makes it.

Must'a spun the wheels too much, you even coated the tree behind the truck!

Don't forget to update on the removal. I think getting it off the tires and wheel wells will be the hard part.

Aw man that sucks! They've been repaving around here and have had the paint crews out the past week or two. I'm paranoid something like that could happen to my truck so I give them plenty of clearance and don't change lanes until I know I'm way out of their work zone!

Here's that thread: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ap...oday-help.html

Here's what Barrett's truck looked like:

Call the those folks responsible for the painting (DOT, City, etc) and make them pay for the clean up. Good luck!

Diesel fuel will take it off. But then you have to wash forever to get the diesel off. Then Wax it good

UPDATE... All fixed.

Got in touch with the County Road work supervisor and he told me he would put me in touch with exactly who I would need to send the bill too. He said he already had one complaint from that job that had already been fixed. So I just call him back when I have had it done and get the right info and go from there.

So I took it to a local Body Shop and he recommended a detailer he used. I took it there and the guy estimated he could do it for $50 so I jumped on it. I left it with him around 10 am and at 3 he called me and was all done. Looks super. Not any hint of it at all and the surfaces under it like the linkages and plastics even looks new and "oiled". He even cleaned and shined the whole wheels and tires too. He told me when I picked it up that it took about 2 hours. Cheap I think.
