if you haven't seen the real Top Gear, you gotta. World apart. They play reruns all the time on BBC America.

This just wasn't the same, although the cars were cool of course.

Anyone know the back story on the real Stig? I never saw that episode

The engine was designed by Lamborghini. At the time, Chrysler owned Lamborghini.

<--viper owner

Haven't seen the new show yet, I have it to record on the dvr. I'm interested to hear what it has to say about the viper.

The Stig is a character in the British motoring television show Top Gear. The character plays on the anonymity of racing drivers' full-face helmets, with the running joke that nobody knows who, or indeed what, is inside the character's racing suit. The character was the creation of presenter Jeremy Clarkson and the show's producer Andy Wilman. 'Stig' was a nickname for new boys at their old school.
The Stig is responsible for setting lap times for cars tested on the show, as well as instructing celebrity guests in the show's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car section. Several episodes have featured comic variations on the Stig character, referred to by the presenters as 'The Stig's cousin'. The Stig character originally wore a black helmet and overalls, but he was killed off in the first episode of series 3, to be replaced in the next episode by a new Stig, wearing white helmet and overalls. This character has featured ever since.

The British show used to suck, too. It got better. Same with the Australian show. It's grown on me since the first season.

I DVRed it and finally watched it, overall I was let down. I wanted them to do something new but a lot of it was just rehashed from the original BBC version. The hosts were somewhere between bad and horrible with the tall bearded one being the worst. There was a total lack of chemistry between them and the jokes just fell flat. They read from a teleprompter worse than Obama. I still have the DVR set to record it hoping it will get better.

Where was jeromy??? How can it be top gear without him??? Answer, it can't. It would have been real interesting if he was there because he hates American cars so he would have really pissed a few people off. I just don't see how they can call it top gear though!!! It would be like 30 minuite meals with Rachel Ray & having Paula Dean presenting it!!

I downloaded an episode last night and was not impressed at all. The only good part of the show was Tanner Foust. I think he has the right attitude for the show, but the other two really need to be replaced for the show to continue.

I've been to Cuba a few times and having spent alot of time with the Brits there, they are not fans of Jeremy as we are. The show apparently does not do well over there, but it has such a huge following elsewhere that it keeps the show going. Not one of the Brits I met, liked the show.

Tanner and Paul Tracey do a show together pitting one super-car against another and the two IMO have great chemistry that should be brought together on Top Gear.

I'll watch a couple more to see if it gets any better.

I agree with OgRedd, somethings just need to be left alone. I will definately watch the BBC Top Gear.

He dislikes most American cars and calls them rubbish. Think about it though, compared to the most other cars, he is correct.

But some of his most favorite cars are American.

After watching this season, I think it's getting better. The trouble is, having seen the original from beginning to end, I have become accustomed to the presenters on the British show. I have a friend who has never seen the originals, who loves the American version.

I have been watching both and like the British version better but the U.S. version is getting better.
