Where To Go For Christmas????
Be careful in Rome, that place is renowned for screwing tourists. So much so that the Italian government has programs set up to catch people doing this and try to stop it. A Roman will get better service, food, prices than anyone else would even other Italians. They are known to have multiple menus, a Roman accent gets the good one everyone else pays more for less.
Northern Italy is a good place to go as well as Southern France. Geneva, Switzerland should not be overlooked either, it's not too far from some of those places. You might try to schedule a day or two in a few places and rent a car or take a train between towns. The weather in Europe will be crap anywhere you go.

Spent 3 yrs in Italy while in the service. I was outside of Naples but went to Rome many times. Go eat off the main drag for good food but if you get off into a small town it is even better. Don't miss the catacombs either.
Well seeing how im stationed here in Germany so rental cars and getting to places are very cheap. I can fly to Paris, France for a 59 Euro round trip ticket. To Rome, Italy is a 10hr drive as well as it is too Nice, France. But if i go the Nice, France route ill be stopping in Milano, Italy and Monaco, France on the way there and probably be spending like a week out total. Rome, Italy would prob be for like 3 days or so because ill be able to see everything in those 2-3 days. You are right about the weather in Europe lol. Its about to snow were im stationed. I already know its snowing in the southern parts as guys are down there skiing.

Wherever you go, stay away from Naples.

If you can fly RT to Paris for €50 then why not just stay there? I loves me Paris at Christmas time. Actually, I loves me some Paris just about any time. Great place to be.
This Xmas for me is going to be in New York. Meh. (Although that is subject to change. Hey, maybe I should check out flight and hotel availability in Paris for Xmas.)

The best thing about Naples is its close to Sorrento and to Pompeii. Sorrento is a charming little town on the coast, with lots of English vacationers.
Naples, outside of a few historical buildings, is pretty much an arm pit. When I was there, Naples was over-run with Albanian refugees. Not sure why they picked Naples, but they had. Naples is probably the last place in Italy I'd want to go.
I'd rather go to Florence than to Rome. I hear Milan is nice, but never been.
Paris is certainly great to visit. Tons to see and do. Would love to go back sometime.
Only been to Monaco/Cannes once. Fun for people watching in summer, but I can't see a good enough reason to go back.
