So I tried the Bars Leak...I've been driving it for about 3 weeks since putting that stuff in the radiator and so far so good! I drive 120+ miles round trip to work 3-4 days a week and so far (fingers crossed) it hasn't left me stranded. Only difference is the car has a bad vibration at idle. We'll see if it'll hold up til after Christmas, then I can think about getting it fixed properly.

Of course, if the "real repair" is too much for your pocketbook, you really have nothing to lose by trying some of the "miracle in a bottle" gunk. I'd say give it a try.
If it doesn't work, you can always donate the car to charity. Many will be happy to take it.
