Beatles

Okay, I'm as big a Beatles fan as anyone, I have been ever since they released Sgt. Pepper's in '67. But as I went to the Apple website (the computer, not the record label) they had this famous picture of the lads:

and this thought suddenly jumped out at me.

The dead guys are both wearing sneakers and the guys that are still alive are wearing leather dress shoes.

More than coincidence?

I doubt it.

So let this be a lesson to you all.

Casual kills.

(Which means I'm a goner, long overdue for passing).

No coincidence....

Paul is also dead.... Revolution 9 slowly backwards.... out of step & barefoot on the cover of Abbey Road while Lennon is dress all in white, Ringo in black like a mortician and Harrison looking like a gravedigger.... no coincidence...

You can clearly see that Ringo is very happy to see John.

Compositing and rotoscoping - yes
Photoshop - no

Free as a Bird's compositing was done by two different houses in Los Angeles (POP and Quiet Man). The work was done on Discreet Logic's Flame system. All of the rotoscoping was done on a Quantel Hal.

And yes, the Beatles . . . the best.

Actually, I meant the pic, not the vid. I'm a long time Beatles fan. They were part of my teen years. My youngest daughter also is a fan. She's been a fan since her teen years too. She's now 30 and between us we have all of the Beatles albums including the rare ones. Pictures, autographs, all of the Beatles stuff. She has met and shaken hands with Ringo and Paul. I've met Ringo- what a hoot he is. Like a lot of folks, they're family although we've never sat down to dinner together, they've always been a part of our lives. Mom thinks we're nutz but she's from Michigan. I've got a lot of Apple quad tapes of the Beatles and Lennon. One of these days they are going to break and I'll regret it but they get played very seldom. Tons of CDs and all of their movies. Yeah, we're a fan here.

There's a show on Broadway about the Beatles that I'm hoping to get to, although it's only running until January 9th. I'm already going to see A Christmas Carol, so I'm hoping I can fit this in too. Rain:A Tribute to the Beatles

Ringo -- talk about a guy being in the right place at the right time. Marginal drum work, very little creative input, 1/4 of the money -- what a racket!

Ain't that the truth. I played with a country band back in high school. I played the drums and could sing all of the Fabian stuff when we played a little R&R. I never saw Ringo as much of a drum guy. His beat counts were pretty simple and nothing fancy. I never saw George as much either. Very few riffs in their music. But together, there was just something magical about it. There wasn't anything like them at the time and hasn't been anything like them since. I am the Walrus was the first abstract song ever and it was to confuse an English class in England who picked apart the grammar of their music. Electronic sounds that they incorporated into their music. They were the first in a lot of things most folks haven't a clue about.

Ok, maybe one of y'all can explain what I am missing but I just do not get the Beatles. I like all sorts of music from old Johnny Cash to the latest alternative bands, throw in a splash of Hendrix and Van Hagar on the way. Yet I just do not see the allure of this band. The lyrics are so-so, musical skill ho-hum the only thing they really had was controversy. To me this does not make a great musical group. What am I missing?

Peace and Love, Peace and Love!

I bought the stereo box set the day it was released at Best Buy but I'm not a "huge" fan, I can take them in small doses.
Not saying I don't appreciate what they've done, but it just doesn't float my boat as much as some people.

I like the White Album and Sgt Peppers the best of the bunch.
(and it's hard not to like Rocky Racoon)

Legend has it Ringo was crowing about being the greatest drummer in the world.

Paul retorted, "Yeah, but you're the SECOND best in this band."

That's one reason I always liked John better. Paul's ego is enormous.
