Exclamation Replacing left front headlight...

Hello,

I need to know correct procedure for changing the left front headlight on my Ford F-150. It is a 1997 model, and the Owner's Guide and Service Guide I have with it both say they are for "F-150/F-250".

I was looking in both the Service Guide and Owner's Guide and neither seems like they really give much instruction on *how* to actually go about changing it--unless I'm just missing it and not seeing it anywhere in the guides (which is entirely possible).

Do y'all know if any tutorials online that could show me how to do it or something?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks God bless.

Your Owner's Manual should show you two black metal release levers located above the headlight housing. Pull these straight up to release the entire housing, then slide it forward and release the harness attached to the headlight bulb. The whole thing then pops out so you can replace the bulb.

To put everything back in, you need to line the three adjuster posts back up in their sliders, then slide the assembly back in and lock the tabs down again.

Yep, and when I bought my new Silverstar Ultra headlight bulbs at Autozone, the guy came out and did it for me! All you have to do is ask.

Then again, the guys at my local Autozone are all pretty sharp and are decent guys. Too bad a lot of Autozones are run by morons. They even change my wiper blades for me.

The 1997 and 1998 F-150s and F-250s shared the same body. The F-250s just had a 5.4L V8 with a beefier transmission and suspension. All the body work/interior/etc is exactly the same as the F-150.

And there is the procedure in the owners guide, I've seen it before. It tells you to pull the two black brackets up and pull out the headlight

The 97 and 98 F-250LD was the same as a F-150, and the standard engine was the 4.6, not the 5.4. The 97 and 98 F-250HD was the old square Super Duty.

Yupper - and later changed to an F-150 with the 7700 package. Not really a true quarter ton truck.

Use a clean dry cloth to handle the bulb. It gets very hot while in use, and the oil from your skin causes it to not dissipate heat as fast. Causing it to burn out more frequently.
