Squirrels chewing engine wires
Squirrels chewing engine wires
I only start up the F150 about once a month through fall/winter. Last year, squirrels chewed completely through the #1 cylinder injector wires. This year already, they severed a ground wire.
Any realistic ideas on what i can do to prevent the squirrel damage from happening when the truck sits for extended periods?
Thanks.

Mix rat poison with rolled oats and peanut butter. Roll it into small ***** and leave it under the hood where no other animals will get it and they will be gone shortly. They love the peanut butter. Don't mean to offend squirrel lovers but they do cause a lot of damage and possible fires when they start eating wiring.
I had chipmunks chew wires on my Edge. They built a nice nest in the engine. It cost 350 to replace the harness because the intake maniforld had to be removed.
I found a device online called the Rat Zapper. I don't think that it would work for squirrles though. They're a little to big for this thing. You also have to remove the dead critter and reset it after it's zapped them.
I guess in your situation poison is the way to go.

Mice once built a nest under my air cleaner on my '78. I had a 50 mile drive to work and was sitting in the parking lot when I noticed two little paws suddenly appear below my windshield wipers. One mouse. Then another, and another. I finally noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment and popped the hood. About 20 of the little mo-dichers start scrambling about as I tore their nest out, which was starting to flame from the engine heat.
