I'm not sure anyone here would dispute that we have some dark moments in our history. However, comparing actions in our past to Hitler is a little crazy. And by crazy, I mean absolutely effing insane. If you don't understand that, I'm sorry for you.

The sad part about this is the public school system feels it necessary to dumb things down to this level. Sure, there should be some kind of incentive for children to do well in school (if going to college and getting a decent job isn't enough) but rapping about old dead white men is not the answer.

While I agree the public education system is a disaster, it won't be fixed in the schools or in the public arena.

It has to be fixed AT HOME.

It's called parenting. Until parents take responsibility for their children's education, behavior, and morals, the public education system is fighting a battle it cannot win.

If you're interested, do a little reasearch on the origins of the public education system. It might surprise you to know it was started in Prussia to 'educate/train' factory workers. Says a lot about the real intent, doesn't it?

One last thought. The system has become more concerned with serving itself (administrators, teachers, test standards, test scores, equal opportunity, religious 'neutrality', race and gender neutrality, blah, blah, blah) than the kids. Remember when we had Valentine's Day parties and gave cards to the kids we liked? Try that today. In some districts you can't even put up a pumpkin poster for Halloween. Christmas parties are also history.

End rant.

Well said, Shotgunz.

Another person that knows the history of the "public education" system.

(Waiting still for the "educator" members to respond to this thread.)

Jus' sayin, it wasn't only whites that had slaves, violent minds and profit motives.
And the africans sold africans...yup. Ppl suck.

haha, I see what you're saying pmason. and shotgunz, thank you. I firmly believe that it is about parenting. My parents expect me to put forth 100% effort and do the best I can, that is why I get good grades and take higher courses. I know way to many people who could be smarter than me and get better grades, but because they have no motivation from home or anywhere else, they fail.

As someone said in the past:

"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"

"Reading is the basics for all learning."

"You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test.''

So:

"As governor of Texas, I have set high standards for our public schools, and I have met those standards."

[QUOTE=jpf150;4361607] My parents... QUOTE]

The word "parents" suggests two, probably married.

Check out the link below for the % of single parent households, by ethnic group, and state by state.

http://datacenter.kidscount.org/data...s.aspx?ind=107

In some states, there are groups where over 70% of the kids are being raised by single parents.

Yes my parents are happily married, and I know many people have only one parent. I know many people with only one parent and get as good or better grades than me. It is all about how a kid is raised. Just like work ethic in general, why do you think people always want someone else to give them something? Most of the time it is because they never had to work for anything and their parents didn't make them.
