Yes just keep driving it and the 4.6 will run circles around the 5.7. Mine had over 325,k on it a 97 4.6 5 speed and i sold it and there was nothing wrong with it except some rust... You are not going to beat him with speed but everything else you win hands down,,, now let it go, and if no then load up the bed with 1200 lbs and then have at it... you will see results then.

If he has a 5.7 then that means he's driving a Chevy. So you win by default.

You couldn't beat him with a hundred more horse power. When you try to race that 5-speed you're going to end up grinding 1st and 3rd, and he'll be way ahead. I know this from past experiance.

The 4.6 is a good engine, but it's a small V8, making small power.

I mean 5.7 as in chevy. I do have 3.73 gears so if i run the clutch right i should be able to get the jump on him? Stock hp and torque figures are only about 20 horse and 35 lb ft! My truck is a bit lighter too? I believe?

His is BONE stock and mine will have true dual exhaust, and modded intake.

???

You would end up spending a couple thousand getting it remotely ready to race. The non-pi heads and the Mazda 5-speed isn't helping either.

Who cares. You're not going to care much who wins the 1/4 mile sprint when you throw a connecting rod through your engine block. Trucks aren't made to race...not even the 4.2's Raptor
Treat it right and take care of it and you'll see 325,000 miles like Buck did.
