Any bluegrass pickers on here?

Anyone else pick? My weapon is a Gibson RG-250 5 string banjo, Scruggs style.

My cousins band were pretty well known Bluegrass players. They live in Hillsville, VA but competed alot in Kentucky.

They were called The McClains and had several albums out years ago, I think they have since stopped playing.

Looks like a good setup Habibi. What type of music do you record/play?
I dont have any pictures of my instruments, but I've got:
Mid-70's Gibson RB 250 Banjo
2005 Deering open-back banjo
Ibanez acoustic 6 string guitar
1940's Gibson Kalamazoo mandolin (My grandpa's, needs strings)
old old old 1800's 3/4 fiddle (sounds amazing, was my great grandpa's)

I just need a stand-up bass now...

We're writing original material and working on some covers as well.
This way we'll have a nice blend when we play out.

Our covers are all over the place, Deep Purple, Floyd, Dream Theater, I guess we're a little on the heavier side. If I knew how to upload an MP3, I'd give you a little example of an original piece I did on my DAW. Maybe someone can chime in and show me how to upload the file.

it's not exactly Bluegrass, but here's a video of a bunch of us doing The Midnight Special at a back yard jam a couple of years ago. Somehow it got posted on youtube. I'm hiding in the left corner playing my Thunderbird bass.
Enjoy...

Sounds good Billy,
You got a steady gig with those guys or was it just like a house party kind of deal?

I've been doing a lot of writing, as soon as I figure out a way to post online I'll let you have a listen.

Hey Habs, how's it going, ay?

that was just a backyard jam party. They happen at there a couple of times a month during the summer and their called "Patio Daddio" parties. Three of the guys were from my band at the time. The guy doing vocals was my bass player and I normally play lead and sing. The guy who did the lead break was the other part of our twin guitar attack and blues/classic rock was our usual style. He is one of the best guitar players it has ever been my good fortune to share a stage with, and I've played with many over the years.

Hope thing are well with you, dude.

regards

Hey buddy, always nice to hear from an old friend.
All is well at this end of the country, although it's been one humid summer.
I keep the central air nice and chilly, takes the edge off the humidty.

Won't be long now and we'll be moaning about the cold soon enogh

I play a LOT of guitar. My cousin plays dulcimer and his brother plays banjo. My uncle's name is Darrell Stapleton, and he is the best fingerpicking bluegrass guitar player I have ever heard. He plays a lot and has played with a lot of people, but he is an architectural engineer so he only does music on the side and for the church. My brother lives about 4 houses down from Dr. Ralph Stanley, and we routinely see him whenever we go to the Huddle House to eat.
It sure reminds me of home when I read about Hillsville and Stuart, haha. I haven't ever been a big fan of bluegrass, but those dudes who play that are some very serious musicians. It takes more skill than just about any other style of music. I'm a rocker, but I'm from a family of bluegrass players and I grew up in bluegrass country.
