Wireless Network Help
I need some help out from any tech gurus here on the site.
Does any one know if it is possible to setup a wireless network in my apt that is fed off another wireless network put out by my complex? Or do all routers need a LAN cable to kick out a wireless signal?
If it is possible, what would I need to do to make it work?

If you are going wireless without a direct connection in your apartment it would have to be very close. Even the best Wireless routers are around 300 feet. On top of that it would have to have no WEP key or password or they would have to be willing to give it to you. Sometimes you can get lucky and somebody in an apartment around you doesn't secure their connection and you can bum off of it but it is normally much slower due to the distance.

Well the wireless signal I get in my room is sketchy, and i seem to get the best signal when standing by my window. our wireless is unsecured, so I can easily tap into the signal.
I just want to know if I will need a wireless card for the router or not, and what all I'd have to do to set it up.
Also, even though the complex wireless is unsecured, can I secure my signal on my network?

If you are picking up on the network with your current wireless card and it's unsecured you should just be able to connect to it but it may go in and out. You don't need a router if your wireless card is already picking up on it. You can't secure your connection because you are just tapping into the main connection. You don't have a connection for anybody else to pick up on, anybody else who is using that connection is taking it from the same place you are.

Be advised - No way to secure it, though ...
