New guy checking in, & w/a couple of ???

Just found your website a week or so ago, & have been lurking since then. Gotta say I like it, so I signed up just a few minutes ago & I already have a few questions. First off I'll introduce myself a little then get on with the questions.

I am from Southeast Iowa, 39 yrs old, male & have been a Ford fanatic all my driving life. My first Ford was a 1965 Mustang (a rust bucket) that I paid $500 for in 1986. From there on out I have owned 4 other Mustangs, 2 Cougars, 1 T-Bird, 1 full size Bronco, 1 F250, & 2 F150's.

My first question to you all would be, after doing the VIN Decoder offered at the top of the page the part that says Engine give me this: Engine: 5.4L SOHC (E). What does the E stand for in quotations?

Second question would be, how am I able to take out the center console in my 2004 FX4 Super cab? In my old F-150 (1995 w/bucket seats) it was easy, but this one looks more complicated. What I am wanting to do is take it out so I can mount a rechargeable flash light in there, then run the wire for the charger some where so I can plug it in to one of the 12V sockets when needed. In the 1995 F150 I had a rechargeable Mag-Lite in there, but the console of the 2004 is a lot smaller, so I bought a Streamlight Stinger LED (not cheap), so I want to keep it out from prying eyes view.

Thanks, & I look forward to seeing the rest of the site.

BTW here is a picture of my "new to me" F-150.

Welcome!

1) Don't know.

2) Taking out the console would be a pain if it's a console shift, as in an entire dash swap.

Welcome.

Looked on another site and it had 2 places that the "E" could be in the vin.
It probably wasn't the right one for your truck but what I got was it is either the specific vehicle the engine is used in or has something to do with the weight class.

Hope that helps.

Don't know about the E deal but I mounted my Inova in my console by prying up the cover that surrounds the gear shift and drilling into the front side of the compartment (towards the shifter) and using toggle bolts to mount it. I ran the wires up to the dashboard and plugged them in behind the dash after removing the radio surround. I tapped into the cigarette lighter from the back and wired in a three plug adapter so I could just plug in my light, the gps and my Archos.

No, no the "E" is not part of my VIN, it is in the results of the VIN decoder.

The results of my VIN decoder, minus the sequence #, are below. The "E" I am asking about is right after "5.4L SOHC" & is in parentheses. Hope that clears up my question some.

World Manufacturer Identifier - 1st, 2nd, 3rd Positions:
Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company, USA
Make: Ford
Vehicle Type: Truck (Completed Vehicle)
Brake Type and GVWR Class - 4th Position:
Brake System: • Hydraulic brake system, Class F, GVWR 7,001-8,000 pounds, Drv & Pass Air Bags
Line Series, Chassis Type, Body Type - 5th, 6th, 7th Positions:
Line Series: F-Series - F150
Chassis Type: 4x4
Body Type: SuperCab Styleside
Engine Type - 8th Position:
Engine: 5.4L SOHC (E)
Cylinders: V-8
Fuel Type: Gasoline
Horse Power: 300
Model Year - 10th Position:
Model Year: 2004
Assembly Plant - 11th Position:
Assembly Plant: Norfolk: Norfolk, Virginia
Production Sequence Number - 12th - 17th:
Sequence Number:

BTW thanks for all the welcomes too. back at ya.

From what I gathered is that refers to specific vehicles they put that exact motor in.

Like there may be a difference in the set up for an F 150 compared to a van or some other body style vehicle. At least that is what I gleaned from the vin info that I read.

But I'm still kinda guessing.

It might just mean EFI - electronic fuel injection. Just a guess.

Did they offer an e-85 in the 04 models or was that 05 and up? My guess would be that is the code for whether or not it will run e-85.
